He's a guy almost everyone would trade for and that's the package you want

Cap space buddy and if he isn't traded by the 2023 Draft day, he gets his full NTC. So it becomes a P. Kane situation.

TBH, you can kill 3 birds with 1 stone with a Mathews trade. If you take 2 of Karlsson, Smith and Marshessault then the cap works. If you choose Karlsson and Smith you add the playoff toughness up front and you are going to get a better package of futures in the deal as well so IMO trading Mathews could be a triple hitter. The issue is can the Leafs expect to contend if they trade one of the leagues top 5 players?

I have to look up Lehner's injury report. If his career is over, than his $5 added onto Karlsson $6 will allow VGK to take the full $11 million contract of AM34.

Also if I place 5 of the Ahl'ers I have on the main roster onto the Marlies, that'll free up $4 million to sign an UFA impact player or a TDL trade.

CHI isn't paying a 2nd round pick to move up 3 spots in the draft.

Hawks have enough high picks that they don’t really need to trade up using draft capital anyways. I would do a Sam Rinzel/Peter Mrazek for Minton type of deal to get back in the first round but no need to bail toronto out of draft prison because they traded their picks…

If Matthews goes through this summer without agreeing to an extension Toronto is going to have a real problem, but I can’t see them trading him. He gives them the best chance to win next year and even if it’s his last year in Toronto they’ll want to make a run.

Whoever would bid for him would want a chance to resign him. Yes almost every team would want him but who could resign him? That’ll be a short list.

That problem with any Matthews trade is that teams don't have the cap space for him. I certainly doubt any "poor" team with cap would want to give up futures for one year of Matthew.
If the Leafs are in the mood to be sellers at TDL, then maybe Matthews accepts a trade to good team, and his cap wouldn't be a problem.

Stop this Muzzin to Arizona nonsense. Muzzin isn't waiving (if he's healthy), and if he's on LTIR, no reason for Arizona to give up anything for him.

I love how you make a mega blockbuster involving Matthews but you also include a 7th round pick for 7th round pick swap at the end for no reason.

yea, you get the idea though, the Hawks have 4 2nd Rd'ers, I'm sure a trade can be worked out.

meh, those trades happen all the time you know. Look it up, Dubas has a history of it.

Just trying to balance out the picks per Draft year.

LOL, no reason for Arz to take another IR player, hmm... say the Coyotes want to trade away Schmaltz without taking any contracts back, how do they do that and manage to stay above the bottom salary cap floor.

Hello reason for adding Muzzin.

Also the player I have going back to the Leafs is a Arz Draft pick who if he doesn't sign this summer the Coyotes lose him for nothing. So this trade returns the 5th Rd pick they blown on an unsigned player previously picked with a 5th Rd pick plus adds much needed cap space to the worst team in the Nhl.

It's simple to understand why Muzzin to the Arz is so common.

Vegas actually can make the space for him. The real issue is Toronto isn’t going to win a cup without him and they’ll be in contention, which is an awful time to trade their best player.

I'll disagree with Vegas having the space. They are committed to 63m for 11 players, some which has NMC or M NTC. I don't how they could add Matthews in 24/25 when the cap is expected to be 87m
Let's say 13m for Matthews that's 76m or 11m for 10 players.
You're right about the Leafs (or any contending team), the likely of being sellers of UFAs at TDL is doubtful. But if the Leafs were to be sellers, Matthews/Nylander/Brodie would get a nice return and cap for the following season.

For resigning Matthews in 2024-25, Vegas has exactly $13 million in UFA coming off the books that summer with Marchessault, Shephenson and Martinez.
