Crazy idea

Created by: Kyriakos_Grizzly
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2023
Published: Mar. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know it's unlikely that Panarin would even wanna come to Detroit, but lets say he would.

Win-Win trade? Rangers gets A LOT of Cap space + the assets from the trade. Wings are getting a star forward they haven't had in a long time.

Seider, Raymond, Berggren and Rasmussen are all RFA's after the 23-24 season. There is very little Cap space after those signings. Probably have to trade either Fabbri or Määttä to make the Cap work. Or maybe both. Söderblom replaces Fabbri and Edvinsson takes Määttä's spot. The good thing is that Panarin and Chiarot contracts would both end when Edvinsson and Kasper need new contract.

What could the asking price be? Have to remember that Rangers are in big Cap troubles.
Trades
DET
  1. Panarin, Artemi
Additional Details:
This is a crazy idea, but the Rangers need Cap space badly
NYR
Red Wings need star players and right handed forwards. What would the asking price be if Panarin is open for a trade and there is no salary retained?

I'd say there's probably a <1% that Breadman would waive his NMC to come here.

rangers can absolutely manage their cap for the next couple years without shedding anyone significant other than Kane

I doubt Panarin is interested. From the reports back when he went to the Rangers, he had a pretty short list of teams he was interested in, and they all seemed to be the traditional big cities

Even if he would, I'm not convinced its the right move for the Red Wings. He is likely going to decline sooner than later. This seems like the kind of move you make AFTER you make the playoffs for the first time, and are trying to take the next step.

Props to you for thinking outside of the box though

Especially if they get Kakko/Laf signed for term at low levels and they then breakout. People forget how young they are it is still totally possible. Quinton Byfield, Alexander Holtz, Marco Rossi, Connor Zary are all 2020 (Laf's) NHL draft who are considered top prospects who have done minimal in the NHL. Perhaps less likely for Kakko

As long as the rangers prioritize the young guys they should be able to manage the cap ok. The only wrinkle is if they go on a run and fall in love with tarasenko or Kane and the owner wante them to stay. Even if that happens it's more why they'd keep pamarin but maybe a good young piece, Laf or Chytil could shake loose.

As a Rags fan I agree but if Panarin can't make it happen with his two best star friends this season except him to be on the hot seat.

Panarin needs to play with very strong two-way players. He can't play with other offensive players because that line would be destroyed.

If NYR don't win, and he keeps playing poorly having his superstar friend's expect Drury to pretty much say it is either a trade or the AHL for you!

Yeah I can't imagine threatening a guy who has been literally voted league's best, 3rd best, and 7th best at his position since joining you AND is your leading scorer this year and every year since joining you, with the ahl. That makes no sense. I think you just don't like him

I'm tried of this turnovers and lack of defensive play. But worst of all is that 11.6 M contract. I like him as a person but not as a player.

If they really need cap help I think Trouba would be a better choice. On this site I know there are quite a few Rangers fans looking to move on from Trouba or at least there were before the deadline.

Yeah Im not buying the move trouba thing. His cap hit is high but he's the whole tone setter on that team. He's a unicorn right now between the skill and physicality. I'd take him in a second if they ever thought of moving him.

Yeah I don't see it happening I just think it would be a better move than going after Panarin.

Just as I said to all the Kessel haters when he was a leaf, he's an absolute super star at what he does. Love him for what he is, instead of hating him for what he isn't. It's up to the coach and GM to build around such players. Look how Chicago built around Kane.

    Hahaha.

It's one of my pet peeves when people pile on young players for being "busts" just because they made the NHL younger and are still developing. But their same age draft mates who just don't come to the NHL for a few years are considered top prospects
