Deal seems about right to me but the team who made it is surprising.

This is probably pretty fair. I think Drouin will be good, but I have a sneaking suspicion that without the top-line, goal scoring prowess of Steven Stamkos, he could score less than expected. But it could also look like an amazing deal down the line.

This contract is good, and i've gotta say that Drouin looks mighty fine in a Canadiens jersey. But trading Sergachev for the negotiation rights is just too much. Weber and Price can't singlehandedly carry your blue line for more than another year or two, Montreal. I'm iffy on the trade for his rights, but the contract is definetly a good one.

Way too much money for an unproven middle six forward. Horrible trade as well. Drouin has always been over rated and now he may be exposed.

From a Tampa supporter, wow did Montreal ever overpay him. He may be good but he is still heavily unproven and inconsistent. Shouldn't be getting any more than 4M-4.5M for 2-3 years to retain his RFA status. He was easily the player who could control the game the best in Tampa if he has the puck on his stick (including Stamkos, Hedman, and Kuch) but ends up making one too many moves usually leading to a giveaway or simply missing the opportunity. Playing on an offensive powerhouse like Tampa, he should've been putting way more in the net for his style of play. He'll be amazing on the power play, but outside of that, he excels when facing weaker competition at even strength.

You must not be aware that Stamkos only played 17 games last season and Drouin still put up 53 points in 73 games as a 21 year old.

They signed a 60 point player to a 6 year deal for less than 6M in the start his prime. This deal will be an absolute steal in 2 years.

Teams usually don't trade just for the negotiation rights. The deal was probably in place before they made the trade official.

Uhh, yes trading just for the negotiation rights happens all the time, especially right before the offseason. And the deal couldn't have been in place before the trade was made official because that would be illegal. Before the trade, Drouin and his representatives could only speak with Tampa Bay regarding contract extensions. According to Pierre LeBrun, the contract talks started as soon as the trade was announced.

well seeing that he didn't have Stamkos for a year and a half he'll be fine.

I agree. I should then clarify, I'm sure they(MTL) aren't allowed to talk dollars and term with Drouin Camp but they had to have known that signing was a real possibility. Or trading for negotiation rights with a player like this would be a. stupid and b. pointless
