JT Miller is Goated

Created by: bogdown
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 15, 2023
Published: Mar. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In the 17 games since the Horvat trade there has been a drastic increase in output for the Canucks, while Horvat has leveled off. Coincidence? Probably not. Horvat’s underlying defensive stats have been very strong with the Islanders and he’s without Barzal on his line. In 17 since the trade:

Bo Horvat 5 goals 4 assists 9pts

JT Miller 7 goals 13 assists 20pts
Beauvillier 7 goals 7 assists 14pts
Kuzmenko 12 goals 5 assists 17pts
Petey 9 goals 15 assists 24pts

Not only that, JT Miller has been a +9 in his past 10 games, the PK has been 84.4% in the last 10 and has been scoring at will.

Was Horvat the issue? Miller says the team was a bit of a ****show and now it’s “fun to come to the rink again”.

Who knows, need opinions.

People told Canucks fans for the entire year that his shooting percentage was not sustainable

Bo very well could have been the issue, having his contract and future up in the air for the entire season gave the team mixed signals as to what the direction was, now that he's gone there is a clean slate for the team, EP40 & Huggy Bear can step into the leadership roles now and make this "their team" whereas despite them being the best players for the last few years, this was Bo's team. I also feel like Bo did not connect well off the ice with a lot of the players, I remember him absolutely blowing up at Jake Virtanen at practice a couple years ago, additionally you NEVER see him in the young player's social media posts, he was a bit of a recluse always preferring to be with his family than hanging out with and forging bonds with the team. When he was with the players he was always hanging with Myers, OEL & the other older guys instead of the young core, JT is a family man but makes time to be with his teammates and while he is a total hard ass, he is not wrong when he goes ballistic.

This is ridiculous, Horvat was absolutely not the issue. Canucks fans need to remember how he was a class act and how he everything he had to the organization for 10 years. Him struggling to score with a new team and Vancouver turning it around due to getting a new coach changes none of that.
