Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2023

Description
Thanks for commenting everyone; it's helping to make me less bored at work.

When Chychrun inevitably gets injured, Sanderson takes 1LD and bring up Kleven.

Comment if you hate it so I can stew about it and chew up more time.

Why would you trade a franchise defenseman for a bottom pairing defenseman and a backup goalie?

Leafs aren't giving up Knies and a 2024 1st for a one year rental in Alex DeBrincat, There's already reports that he wants 8 x $9,000,000 and the leafs can't afford that plus give Matthews $13,000,000 per+ or re-sign William Nylander.

Detroit already offered that kind of deal to Tyler Bertuzzi, He wants at least 6-7 years @ $6,500,000 plus if he signs in Canada he loses his American visa and probably won't be allowed to play in the US.

Honestly, money. I can't see us being able to afford Chabot, Sanderson, and Chychrun beyond this season. With Brannstrom's improved play and Kleven upcoming (not to mention JBD and Thompson improving) I figured a LD would be safe to move so I picked the one with the highest cap hit.

I don't watch too many Flames games but I liked Zadorov last year and figured he'd be an improvement over Hamonic as 2RD to play with Sanderson, our future franchise defenseman. Plus, let's us keep Chychrun on his good side without wasting talent on the 3rd pairing. Adding Vladar was to give some cushion in case Forsberg got injured and Sogaard needed some more AHL time. Happy to reconsider this for a bit more of a defensive stalwart; say Oleksiak or Larsson (purely theoretical, need to ignore NTC issues), plus our boy D'Accord (?) from SEA.

But I did warn this was going to be full of bad ideas.

Yeah, it would be a huge pay for a rental of DeBrincat, but is done with the thought that Toronto would think the wheels would fall off, as they say, after this season. If they won though, nobody would care.

As for Bertuzzi, I did not know that. Put that in the bad idea pile and I'll think of a replacement.

yes it would seeing as he only has 12 5on5 goals this season, by looking at his stats he seems to score alot on the pp and the leafs dont need the help there.

Hockey-wise trading Chabot is not the worst idea but it would be a huge blow to the franchise's credibility and reputation, not to mention the locker room. And if a Chabot trade did happen I'd want a much better return than that.

Changed it for Andersson instead of Zadorov and removed the 2ND rounder.

Calgary can't afford Chabot and aren't trading a contract as great as Andersson's. I would argue Andersson is better than Chabot or at least on par

@python3504

I removed the first rounder from the Leafs to make it a 1-for-1. Sure, Leafs may still not want to do this for re-signing purposes but it gives them that top LW they need NOW so I could still see it. Plus, it's boring to keep DeBrincat in a mock-GM thing entitled 'Bad Ideas Only'.

I did remove Bertuzzi based on what you said; impossible is boring too. Added Sheary as RW depth option instead.

Totally fair. As a Sens fan I am at high risk of overvaluing Chabot, but he is a really good player that gets overlooked because of his team. I picked a trade with Calgary since they have a lot of players capable of playing RD and figured they'd be open to moving one.

As for not being able to afford Chabot, in theory they could. Moving Andersson and Vladar opens approximately $6.7mil in cap space. Throw in the $1mil the cap rises and you're almost there lol. Would Calgary want to do that? No idea, but that's why we're all here eh

No they can't afford him at all. Even with the 1M raise in cap Calgary is already projected to about 1-1.5M over the cap next year with a full roster. They already have to shed cap this summer unless the cap goes up more than 1M. Nevermind trading put 2 roster players for 1 that is net more expensive

It's brutal, sure, but from everything swirling about Knies it is going to age well. I did consider changing it from Knies and Toronto to LAK for Kaliyev/Durzi or Clarke so it isn't a rival, but figured LAK would be less inclined to swing for the fences at the moment.

New idea as well... DeBrincat goes to Calgary for Andersson and Vladar, Chabot goes to Seattle for Tolvanen/Gourde and a 1ST

Yeah, except Rielly is under contract until he's 36, Chabot is only until he's 31.

Ottawa is never going to retain 4.5M for 8 years oj an elite player and Calgary cant take on his full cap hit of 8M
