LEO CARLSSON

Created by: Lactic_Flaccid
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 16, 2023
Published: Mar. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Likely roster into Free Agency if Ducks end up drafting Carlsson (which I just get the gut feeling), just add a top pairing RD and a middle pairing LD and this team will be fun to watch fight for a playoff spot. Reassess the roster at the deadline and trade away anyone and everyone who isnt a part of the future.

what you guys need more than anything is 2 high level defensive D guys to help the goaltending out. you guys allow WAY to many high danger scoring chances and to me letting Shattenkirk and Klingberg go is a blessing. bulk up you D with fast strong stay home guys and in 1-2 you get a potential top pair offensive D coming up in Mintyukov that you swept out from under the sharks feet lol.

Super weak RD free agency class IMO. Not worth it to overpay for someone like Severson. Id trade up and take Reinbacher. He is closer to NHL ready than most other guys IMO and he fits the timeline well.

Also Helleson is gonna be a very solid guy, so signing someone else would just block him. Anaheim isnt gonna be good next year imo. So just see what you got outta your younger guys

Trade UP to take Reinbacher? Wouldn't that be trading down to ~10th?

Yeah, there's not a ton of RHD available, but if Verbeek can get a guy like Mayfield to come be Fowlers partner, even maybe Dumba (not the greatest defensively, but throws huge hits and is one mean customer, great in the room, really pumps the guys up, wouldn't be a bad signing). Helleson would be good, but I think giving him 1 more year to marinate in the AHL would be beneficial before calling him up to 3RD.

100% agree, give me Graves and Mayfield. Consolation prize is pick up Reilly from Boston a-la Kulikov deal, and sign Dumba to a reasonable 3-4 year deal. I'm really struggling to think what defensive RHD would be available from a team for trade, maybe we can get Hakanpaa back from Dallas, but he is signed cheap, hard to think he will be a cap casualty. Connor Murphy maybe? Ristolainen's contract fits, but is Risto the answer? Maybe Cody Ceci from Edmonton? 2-4 years would be ideal for term left if we pick someone up.

We're gonna stiff the third overall draft pick out of 100 grand a season? Sheesh.

The rest of it looks okay -- I have differences of opinion about some of the lines, but who cares about that right now? -- for what it is: a developing plan for Draft Day Plus One. I like everyone's suggestions (including yours, in the Team Description, which some may have overlooked) about some free agent actual-defender defenseman/men. Count me on board.

I would kick the Tires on Severnson (NJD) but your right RD and goalie market is very weak this year. Honestly there isn’t a deep or strong position in FA period this year.

Nah take Carllson 100%. But trade lets say 34OVR, another 2nd and then a player (Like Comtois or some other smaller asset to a team (maybe Florida) who is trying to stay competitive and is shopping the pick)

Fair, I think I meant to put 950, but whatever... I played with the lines a lot here, and ended up settling with this. I am curious to hear your thoughts on how to handle the center position next year. We are overflowing with guys who probably prefer to play center, but a couple of them will have to shift to the wing, candidate #1 for me is easily Strome as I think McT, Z, Lundy are moreso natural centers (I wouldnt hate Z on the wing, but weve seen his best hockey at center imo) and create a really strong spine for the top 9 for years to come. Gaucher when hes ready could challenge for 3C as well, and whoever we draft if we get a top 3 pick, well have one more. I almost think trading Lundestrom might be in our future

Unfortunately for Florida, the Habs have their 1st this year. Maybe Vancouver or Washington might, but we're kind of shy on assets that they'd want, unless we're willing to move Lundestrom.
