healthy game 1 lineup

Description
I tried to keep Fred and Bert together because of their obvious chemistry the last few games. I'm not sure if this happens as it seems that Monty likes to keep certain players together (88,46 - 11,13 - 37,63) and Frederic is pretty unproven (or just bad) at center. Hathaway and Foligno would probably cycle in and out.

Frederic has been horrible at center. No way they put him there.

For the forward group, it’s a three man battle for third line winger duties between frederic, bertuzzi, and hall. This may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I think a really strong case can be made that frederic is the best option for 3RW.

The d is tougher. I tend to think that their standard grouping, subject to change based on situation will be:
Grzelcyk - McAvoy
Lindholm - Orlov
Forbort - Carlo

I don't disagree with you about Frederic being bad at center, especially with faceoffs. If he stays at 3RW, do you move Hall or Bert to 4W?

I have wondered why they don't try Forbort-Carlo at 5v5, maybe worried about the transition play?

Coyle will stay on the 3rd line. If 11 and 59 can play will together, that's good but Frederic will most likely end up on the 4th or out of the lineup (for Foligno) if they have everyone available.

Forbort and Carlo together at 5v5 is not a thing, they both struggle to exit the d-zone cleanly and that would be a major issue. Both are also limited offensively so it would create problems in the o-zone as a 5-man unit.

Your current third pair forces Grzelcyk to play on his off-side when he's much better on the left and it's more difficult to play on your off-hand due to the heavy forechecking in the playoffs. 3 LHDs and 3 RHDs is the way to go if everyone is healthy.

I can't see them scratching Gryz, because his puck moving game is so good, although I do like Orlov over him. Also it's hard to sit Forbort because of his importance on the PK, which then leaves Clifton as the odd man out and one guy playing their offside. I don't think anyone has looked particularly great on their offside, but Orlov has looked the best, so maybe switch him and Gryz.

I think they roll with hall - coyle - bertuzzi, but I’m not confident its the right decision.

Orlov away from Lindholm and McAvoy gives them three strong pairs like TBL with Hedman, McDonagh and Sergachev. Orlov will play with both situationally anyways. They should be fine on the PK with Carlo, McAvoy, Lindholm, Orlov and Clifton available.
