What do you mean? They’ll already have an elite tandem in net, after trading a 2nd for Carter Hart and Jake Allen for Juuse Saros 1-for-1.

Regarding the Levi signing, I love it. It’s Buffalo’s most glaring weakness.

Our goaltending and team defence is atrocious. This is a step in the right direction. We need another legit top 4 shutdown defender and team defence to clean up our own end and playoffs could actually be a realistic expectation in 2024. Could happen in 2023 but seems like a stretch this year. Fingers crossed 🤞

Great signing. He could well be the Sabres' goalie of the future, as @Rooney says.

I always wonder who votes "No" on an ELC signing, especially a signing of a highly-regarded prospect with a distinct resume.

A Habs fan that wanted him to go UFA and sign in Montreal most likely.

No doubt he was signing with us, he's the future of our franchise in goal. Amazing work ethic, very smart kid, and such a refined style of play.

Don't worry Habs fans, we can still sign a Hobey Baker finalist quebecer goaltender.... Levi's ex-teammate and training partner Yaniv Perets! LET'S GOOO!

*Peewee teammate

(which is crazy…considering they may be the best two prospect goalies not in pros).

He's probably gonna get lit up early on, and not because he's a bad goalie. Sabres team D is not good. But, he has the potential to be a solid #1 for years to come.

With Lukkonnen stumbling in his development it definitely gives the Sabres a plan B. if Portillo would have signed I am not sure Levi gets a shot in Buffalo though.

Wild fan here. I assume Samuelsson is one of the "legit top 4 shutdown defender(s)" you are referring to. Is Power not a shutdown defender? I'm curious as to what BUF fans feel about Power, Dahlin, Jokiharju, Lyubushkin, & Stillman. Along with Ryan Johnson (who's killing it for my Minnesota Golden Gophers).

To me, BUF, OTT, & NJD are set to become the dominant dynasties of the 2020s.

Connor Hellebuyck (Born May 19 1993 NHL debut at 22 yo) 2013-2014 1.79 GAA and 0.941SV%, Back up GK Doug Carr 1.80 GAA 0.936 SV% his last college season.
Devon Levi (Born Dec 27 2001, 21 yo) 2.24 GAA and 0.933 SV%, Back up GK Grant Riley 3.06 GAA 0.824 SV% this past season in college.

It appears the Sabres will keep Levi on the NHL roster presuming so he can collect his full salary as his AHL salary is only $80,000 plus after the TDL the teams do not have a 23 player roster limit.

Here it comes:
My big bold prediction, Levi plays more games than Comrie or Anderson the balance of the season (not their combined games just more than either one of them).
He may be as ready as Kulich or Savoie to enter the NHL.

Yes, if we clone SAMUELSSON x 4 it would be perfect. My point is we need more of that. Power and Dahlin is excellent but are more offensively focused, they both roll the dice too much with defensive coverage, but manage it well. Jokiharju is quick and skilled not spectacular at defence or offence. Stillman is a boarderline NHL/AHL defender. I like Lyibushkin as a 3-7 defender. We need an upgrade on what’s left.

We just lost 7-0 to Boston and 10-4 to Dallas. Our defence is our biggest issue because we can fill the net on the other end.

I’m going to upset some but UPL is not an NHL goalie (I think his save percentage is 50/50 LOL) as least not yet. Hopefully Levi is the guy, seems early for him to jump into NHL but we’ll see.

To be fair our actual defenders skills are above adequate. I feel more our defensive problems are 1) lack of a true #1 goalie and 2) Coaches that have no idea how to scheme team defensive NZ and DZ coverage because we do have the horsepower.

Back to my original point of wanting a shutdown defender, yes I prefer Samualsson type defenders. Ie: Trade Jokiharju for a Gavrikov type player. But at the same time we also need team defensive commitment and better Coaching in this area.

Love that he said he's committed to being the next Ryan Miller, you love to see it.

Oh yeah, the signing is alright too.
