Next season if the tank fails

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 18, 2023
Published: Mar. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this version of next season hawks sit out on Unrestricted Free Agency. There are some buy low/flip candidates available that the hawks could grab BUT I think they already have enough flip candidates that no signings need to be forced.

Might be a good idea, but if you are moving him this trade seems fair.

No reason to move him for a player that will probably never be as good as him

I feel like it’s more likely the isles buy out Bailey. They need the picks

They still have “most” of their picks over the next 3 drafts and are only losing out on 1 in this trade. I’m not going to act like I know the islanders situation all that well but I think they would do well with the cap flexibility now.

they would buy him out for 2 reasons. 1. His contract is buyout friendly 2. It lets him choose where he wants to go

That’s a good way to treat a veteran, so respect there. His buyout looks just alright to me though, you save just about half of his cap hit in year 1 and add on an extra year at about 1.2 million. To me the money you save in a buyout doesn’t seem like it would help the islanders in a significant enough way. Who would you be able to sign for 2.4 AAV that would be a significant upgrade on what Bailey does?

Yeah, Leafs easily pass. You're not getting a first in a Murray dump when it costed a 2nd to dump Zaitsev

Dear Blackhawks fans…you want Matvei Michkov

Whoever does not take Michkov at 2 will regret it for decades

They literally did this trade last season, only difference was instead of Murray it was Mrazek. Given that Dubas may be unemployed at the time of the draft the team could go in a different direction, but saying it’s an easy pass is dumb.

I would absolutely take him at 3 or 4, but Fantilli is too fantastic of a piece to pass up. He is comparable to Toews, and Number 1 centers like that are so hard to find.

It is an easy pass, Mrazek had two years left. Murray is a UFA after next season

I don’t see the term as a big consideration in that trade, 1-2 years didn’t make a difference for the hawks, and actually was probably a bonus for cap floor considerations. At the very least the hawks didn’t charge “more” to take on the term in the trade and for the leafs the cap hit needed to go no matter what.

Murray isn't as useless as Mrazek, the biggest difference between the two is that one can make a save and the other can't. There are endless options that won't have to involve our 2023 first like putting him on LTIR (if he agrees) or retaining $2M and having a team trade for him. We can dump his entire contract similar to what the Sens dumped Zaitsev for. If buying him out is the only way to get rid of his contract, that works as well considering his buyout isn't bad and we can screw OTT over where they have to retain 25%

Lmao buy him out with what money? The leafs need every penny they can get especially once their annual first round exit happens and they get desperate in free agency.

With what picks would you dump his contract if it came to that? When you consider the projected positions of the draft picks then you are moving back half of one round. It’s strange that you would want to give up a comparable package to what OTT paid (high 2nd, future 4th) but wouldn’t move back ~16 spots for the same service.

Deep draft, can't see us moving back. Besides, buying Murray out or keeping him on LTIR would be much better
