Additional Details:
I cannot tell if Carolina fans really love KK and don't want him traded or you're just not satisfied with the offer (i.e. Miller). I'd appreciate if you don't like the offer you'd let me know what you think KK is worth (i.e. 2nd round pick, late 1st round, mid 1st round etc) and if you wouldn't trade him for any reasonable offer just say that. I'm genuinely curious.

It's a little bit of both. Kotkaniemi is 23, he's producing around the same amount as Garland and is FAR better defensively. That's not a statement on Garland, but it does speak to how good KK is. You'd need a lot more to pry out a young promising player.

Carolina also don't want Miller. At all. In any context. If you offered me JT Miller for free, I do not think I'd take it.

pass on this deal. Trading KK for Garland makes zero sense for the Hurricanes. He is on a good deal that has look better as the season goes on.

Nit picking since I'm not going to comment on the Carolina trade. But I feel Vancouver should either send their third or take the Detroit 5th back I that deal.
I think they would be smart to target the NJ duo.

Moving KK makes no sense for the Canes. He is young and hasn’t even finished year 1 of his extension. He has been quite good offensively since the turn of the new year, and has been elite defensively the entire season. He isn’t getting moved.

He has 1 goal and 6 pts in 14 games in January. He picked it up after that. 7 g and 16 pts in 17 games in Feb and march

He was half a point per game in January, why are you trying to downplay that? The fact he's been a point per game the last 2 months is great, but that half a point a game scoring pace isn't not "picked up"

Thanks for the answer. I had thought the feeling was he was a little disappointing and over paid and his contract length was scary. After reading and some of the comments, it seems like that was the sentiment of some more from the first half of the year and he looks like he really picked up in the second half. I would still say Garland is better at his position relative to KK at his position right now, more of a 3c vs 2nd line wing. But obviously I'm looking to trade for KK because I like him long term as a really good 3c.

You're still a little bit off here. Garland is just not better than Kotkaniemi. Garland has 2 more points, and Kotkaniemi is FAR better defensively. Kotkaniemi is way younger too. The issue with KK was when he was signed on 6.1. Since the extension, there have been no issues. If nothing else, he saved the Canes a million against the cap every year being a long-term replacement for Jordan Staal. If it works out as it has done in 2023, he could be a long-term 2C as that is where he is playing right now. If your assessment is still that he is a long-term 3C when he's been the 2C on the 2nd-best team in hockey all year, you need to reevaluate.
