2023-2024

Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 18, 2023
Published: Mar. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m in favor of letting Wood walk in free agency and using either Foote, Thompson, or an external option at 4LW. If the team decided that they wanted to bring him back, this is the most I’d be willing to pay for him. Schenn or Gudas at 3RD if the Devils want to give Nemec another year in the AHL

It makes a lot of sense for Wood to sign a 1-year, prove it deal. Maybe he gets 2-years, $3m elsewhere, but with an injury season followed by a lackluster season, I doubt he gets his big payday. If he signs 1-year with NJD, he gets spot in good team to rebuild his value. And cap going up in 2024.

1-year, between $1.5 million and $2 million sounds spot on.

4-years for Graves might be necessary. Hopefully we would ability to trade after 2.

I would say that I want Graves for at least 2 of the 4 years on the deal, but preferably 3 of the 4. After the 3rd year, Luke will need an extension in addition to Nemec if he makes the team next year. Luke should easily be solidified as a top 4 dman at that point and a cheaper 3rd pairing dman can be brought in

I'd rather pay anyone in the league not named Miles Wood those 2 million dollars

I would prefer to spend it on someone like Foligno or Acciari but I could see the Devils bringing him back if he's willing to sign for that number. 2nd longest tenured Devil, he's a good locker room guy, and he brings physicality which is something we desperately lack. If it were me, I would look elsewhere, but I could very well see something like this being the outcome

I'd pay Tatar and have Boqvist on the fourth line. Bo brings some of that "gritty" energy with his high pressure forechecking but still has a fair amount of skill.

Definitely an option, but I like Boqvist in a 3rd line forechecking role, not a 4th line gritty role. He’s too soft to play that type of role. Here’s another idea if we want Tatar back

Meier- Hischier- Bratt
Palat- Hughes - Holtz
Tatar- Boqvist- Mercer
Haula- McLeod- Lazar

I like Bo at 3C, but in that case I'd run Lazar-McLeod-Bastian as the fourth line. Nate is too good to be scratched for Lazar and Haula is expensive for a fourth liner.

Like Haula for the depth. Can play anywhere in bottom 6 and can be emergency top 6 player. Actually don’t feel forced to bring Bastian back

Haula is a nice utility at C, but I think Bastian is the better player. He's by far the best on the BMW line, although McLeod has been shockingly good of late.
