Chat-GPT's explenation:

The Toronto Maple Leafs offer the Edmonton Oilers a package deal consisting of three key players and several draft picks for superstar center Connor McDavid. The proposed trade includes:

Auston Matthews, the Leafs' talented young center who has established himself as one of the league's top scorers. Matthews is seen as a potential franchise player who can lead the Oilers for years to come.

Mitch Marner, another promising forward who has shown excellent playmaking skills and a strong two-way game. Marner has also demonstrated a knack for coming through in clutch situations, making him a valuable asset for any team.

Morgan Rielly, a reliable defenseman who has been a fixture on the Leafs' blue line for years. Rielly is known for his strong skating ability and his ability to move the puck up the ice, making him an ideal fit for Edmonton's style of play.

In addition to these players, Toronto would also offer several high draft picks, including their first-round pick for the next two years. The Leafs hope that this package deal will be enough to convince Edmonton to part with McDavid, who is widely considered to be one of the best players in the game.

Wonder what he thinks of the sandin trade

Rasmus Sandin is a 21-year-old defenseman who was drafted 29th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018. He has shown promise as a skilled and mobile defenseman with good offensive instincts. Erik Gustafsson is a 29-year-old defenseman who has played for several NHL teams and has experience as a power-play quarterback.

The 2023 1st round pick from the Boston Bruins that Washington received in this trade is a valuable asset, as 1st round picks are generally highly sought after in the NHL draft. However, the exact value of the pick will depend on where the Bruins finish in the standings in the 2022-2023 season and the strength of the draft class that year.

Overall, the trade could be seen as a move by the Maple Leafs to acquire a valuable future asset in the 1st round pick while parting ways with a young defenseman who has potential but has not yet established himself as a top NHL player.

I like Sandin - think he will be a decent player but I think this was a trade that benefited both teams. Caps get a young cost controlled D that has not shown he can play top 4 minutes, but still has upside. Leafs get an equal player for playoff run + a much needed 1st rounder to start restocking the cupboards. Plus, with Reilly signed long term there wasn’t really a path forward for Sandin with Leafs (Reilly is our PP QB)..
