Description
Here is my thinking. Dubois, Scheifele, Dillion, Hellebuyck all have 1 year after this year left. My hopes is we move them all in the off season so that we do not go into next year with them. While as a fan, I want to see them succeed. I would rather not watch them have a decent year and be a fringe playoff team. I have a feeling if that were the case. Chevy would hold these guys and then lose them for nothing. No idea of the trade value for any of these guys. Just players I would like to see in Jets uniforms. No one reads this anyways, so let the value bashing begin.

We are good at center (Kopitar, Danault, Byfield, Kupari, Lizotte), maybe another team.

Kings are fine at centre, don't PLD...and that is too high a price for a one year rental, and certainly the Blues don't want one year of Scheifele for Buch straight up.

I would need someone to fact check this or if anyone knows...

But that would probably be the single biggest, if not one of the biggest returns for a goalie EVER in the NHL. Considering Hughes was drafted 4th overall in 2021. Hellybuck is a wonderful goalie but he only has one year left.

Zero chance NJD trades Hughes for 1 year of a goalie.

"No reads this anyways." I read it.

However, you need to adjust your expectations of what your players would return in trades, as all of these are significantly slanted in favor of Winnipeg.

If you're expecting these kinds of returns for expiring contracts, then you'll probably be disappointed. Its pretty clear that no non-Jets team would consider these.

-That's an insane ask for Hellebuyck. He's under contract for a year and you want a 1st and a consensus top-10 prospect?
-The Kings are set at center and probably don't have the cap flexibility to sign Dubois to a massive contract with all their young guys and prospects.
-Ottawa is probably fine not trading a 2nd for Dillon when they have a top 4 of Chychrun, Chabot, Zub and Sanderson.
-Buchnevich is better than Scheifele with more term.
-You'd probably have to pay Montreal and Anaheim to take those contracts, because neither are looking for veterans.

I like the concept, only way to build a winner in Wpg is to sell, add draft capitol, tank, and get in the top 3 for a couple of drafts and rebuild.

Take a look at the most recent trade deadline, trading stars for future assets usually is slanted in favor of the team trading the best player. I would imagine, anyone trading for any of PLD, Scheif, or Helly would have an eye towards a contract extension before the trade, which would increase the return.

Aside from Patrick Roy decades ago, I dont think a Vezina winner in his prime has been traded, there is nothing to base this on. Cory Schneider was a very good goalie in his prime traded at the draft for the 9th overall selection (Horvat) several years ago. He wasnt a vezina winner. I think one of the eastern teams that doesn't win the Cup this season, and if its because of inconsistent goaltending, teams like Carolina for example might think Helly is the missing piece. They might be willing to give up something along the lines of what was suggested here.

Schneider is a very good example as to why goalies are not as valuable now as they were 10 years ago. MAF won the Vezina and was traded immediately after he won for Mikael Hakkarainen. Hellebuyck definitely has much more value than MAF did, but a year away from free agency and looking for a long term contract he is not going to return a prospect in Luke Hughes tier, let alone adding a first. If you're getting into that kind of offer territory, you might as well look for a younger goalie with more control.

I couldn't say this any better myself, but I'll try anyway just to reinforce your points:

Wow! These are some HUGE overevaluations of the worth of Jets players. New Jersey wouldn't trade Luke Hughes for Hellebuyck and Winnipeg's 2023 first, and St. Louis wouldn't trade Buchnevich for Scheifele straight up. Los Angeles has no need for one year of Pierre DuBois on his way to Montreal and wouldn't pay that much for him even if we had the desire AND the cap space. Dillon isn't worth a second and Schmidt and his contract aren't worth a third.

Colorado, who were in desperate need of a goalie, acquired Darcy Kuemper for Connor Timmons (who's turned into a nice bottom-pairing defenseman), a first-round pick and a third conditional on the Avs' winning the Cup, which they did. But Luke Hughes would not be involved.

That may or may not be true, but these valuations are well beyond reasonable, even with extensions considered.

Didn't Ryan O'reilly get a boat load as a rental? Ben Chariot fetched a 1st round pick.

I doubt the Devils trade LH, yes he's good, but he's his sibling is their best player, so yeah no go.....BUT, Kuemper isnt Helly, Helly could and should fetch a 1st (if its a contender its a late one), a grade A prospect (possibly someone taken in the top 10), and possibly more.

Good recall, what was different about the MAF trade was that he was now a backup, had lost his mojo, perceived as past his prime, and made 8 million. Different situation than Helly. In MAF defence he found his game again, but that was the reality at the time of that trade.

I agree with you that if Hellebuyck is traded in the off-season, he should get a first and a good prospect, and perhaps more (depending upon whether Winnipeg has to take cap back), but I don't think that you're coming close to a prospect taken in the top 10 who shows promise.

One year of Hellebuyck for the top drafted prospect in the world (THW), the league's 8th best goalie prospect (Wheeler), and a 1st round pick?

Honestly guys, I didn't research the history of Luke Hughes. That is on me, it could be any higher ranked prospect. I just looked at a young D-man and threw him in there. I think it starts with Schmid and a 1st though.
