Just Keep Hutson. He may have the lowest floor, but he has the highest ceiling, and he is pretty unique. Keeping your prospects is important.

Right now Hutson is completely untouchable outside of an extreme overpay. Just with what he's capable of developing into I wouldn't trade him for Nemec, Jiricek, or (Insert defensive prospect here), the potential is all there and he can be a core piece moving forward.

I'm going to stick with the one who's 6'3", was the top defenseman in the WJC, and is currently succeeding as an 18/19yo in the AHL for now. Maybe Hutson goes full Bobby Orr and changes the role of a defenseman forever and I look like the biggest fool in the world, but right now, I'll stick with the one my team holds the rights to.

    Hutson >Nemec and Jiricek

Nemec and Jiricek are both great top pair RD of the future capable of 25+ minutes .
But Hutson's a Top Pair Guy capable of 22-25 depending on how much we're on the PP and how much were on PK(Hutson doesnt do PK)

They're more well rounded and Mature but they might hit 50pts 1-2 times in their career's
Hutson will destroy that threshold yearly because of the depth of you talented shooted we got .
I dont think MTL gives him up anymore then NJD or CBJ would give up their guys.
Its like comparing Erik Johnson and John Klingberg to Erik Karlsson

MTL isnt in a position where waiting hurts them , its actually better as it limits the clustering of Free Agents down the road when we're contending .
Plus the kid needs time to get down the defensive side of things. He took big strides this year but he's got more work left to do .
Personally given he's made the NCAA his Bi*** i'd opt to send him oversea's to the SHL to compete for a year as its Renowned for its Defensive Structure as a whole.
They'd balance out the only real weak spot in his game over there with meaningful minutes

I wouldn't necessarily but much value in NCAA, junior, even AHL or SHL stats. Lots of "stars" in lesser leagues, for whatever reason jut can't make the jump to the NHL. I'm wishing Hutson the best of success, but certainly isn't any guarantees

Neither would i , until he set a 30 year records for defensman. So the top 5 since 1987 is :

    1. L.Hutson 1.28 PPG
    2. B.Leetch 1.27 PPG
    3. A.Fox 1.14 PPG
    4. Q. Hughes 1.03
    5. Z.Werenski 1.00

Their top 10 has 1 bust due to injury issues being a small guy in the 1990's trying to turn pro.
He's growing and likely going to be a Stout 5'10 - 5'11 like his dad who weight 201lbs
I say Lane tops out at 185-190 in his prime years though getting heavier as a veteran once his legs arent as fast anymore .

I'm happier than can be with Hutson in a position to Win the Hobey Baker and Engstrom in the SHL runner up for the Rookie of the Year .
We got some great young LD coming up some that are big athletic bodies who non stop train like Engstrom and some that are speedy little guys who can shoot.
    We need them all

Woah Woah Woah. Chill. We're keeping him, and we'll see what he turns into. Hopefully he's the Leo Messi of hockey and we get cup 25, but we need to stop expecting him to be that. He is gonna take at least 1 more year to season in College and then he may need some seasoning in the AHL.

Trust me I am excited, but even his coach said he's more of a Krug than an Orr.

    Boston University PP/O-zone dmen

    2023: Lane Hutson
    2022: Don Fensore
    2021: David Farrance
    2020: David Farrance

Can stare at the point totals all day, still not going to push Hutson into elite tier of defensive prospects.

(Also, the one thing all these guys have had in common…Case McCarthy as defensive partner).

whats different that these guys is the age that he did it. Even if its only his offense that translate to the nhl, there is still a lot of reasons to be excited.

Considering jiricek is destroying the record for 18 year old scoring in the AHL easily him. He also has the highest ceiling due to his size. I would take nemec over him too and it’s not really close although he is looking like a steal. We will see how his size holds up against men

Just Keep Hutson. He may have the lowest floor, but he has the highest ceiling, and he is pretty unique. Keeping your prospects is important.

I'm not suggesting a trade but rather who's the best defenseman prospect a year after the draft

and it is very clearly not lane hutson. David Farrance did the exact same thing as hutson when put in that role for that team
