I do not think the Canes are the right team for Kevin Hayes. They wouldn’t give up nearly as much as you think and they’d ask for more retention than you’ve done.

Washington will be dealing Mantha in order to gain cap space, so Deangelo's a no-go, especially with Carlson+Jensen+TvR extended past this year.

Canes pass. Hayes isn’t the guy they need and that is a drastic overpayment

Kings won’t be moving Clarke. They wouldn’t for Chychrun, they wouldn’t for this either.

I'd trade Brandt Clarke for Cale Makar or Connor Bedard. No one else.

Take out Clarke and the second and Los Angeles might do that.

maybe they can swing some deals for less cap space there. you can admit, a PP with TDA, even on their 2nd unit, or if Carlson misses more time and he plays PP1 with Ovy, would be electric. TDA may have 60 assists alone.

He's the perfect guy. With a little more retention, it would absolutely be worth it.

2 wing prospects, both of which are at the very least B+ prospects, as well as a 1st and 2nd, for a guy signed until he is 34-35, who has only ever actually hit 50 points once, and that was this season. Not to mention he is pretty useless defensively, and his lack of offense isn’t a remedy. The Flyers best chance to, 1) move that contract, and 2) actually get a somewhat worthwhile package for him was at the deadline, and they let that chance slip through their fingers. He is a buyout candidate and you still think that he pulls that kind of package? Hell, fair value on Kuzy in a 3 way trade is much cheaper, and the Canes could get just as bad defense and more offense. It’s not worth it to overpay for someone, when it’s more likely you could get paid to take on his contract.

First of all, respect to that profile pic.

But secondly, Washington just got Sandin to do the same thing as what you'd be acquiring Deangelo for, and they wouldn't be able to afford Deangelo's cap hit past this year. With Carlson returning to play today there doesn't seem to be any fear of him missing more extended time, and with Jensen+TvR signing extensions past this year Deangelo's only chance in the top 6 would be on the 3rd pairing alongside TvR. TDA's 5 mil would end up handcuffing Washington and leaving them unable to sign Fehervary, Alexeyev, and the forward they need, plus it gives them another gaping hole in the middle 6 without Mantha, so there really isn't anything here that would persuade Washington to accept this.

I think you're wrong about almost everything you said - remember, Hayes is playing on one of the worst teams in the league with some of the most inexperienced. Guy is still putting up almost a point per game, his defense has slipped, but for the big majority of his career, he was a successful 200 foot forward as well as a great special teams player. That's all Ill say.

You can think I’m wrong all you want. Doesn’t change the fact the Canes didn’t offer that package at the deadline, where his value was at a career high, and they certainly aren’t going to offer up that package over the course of the rest of Hayes’ career. The Flyers are going to have to find a GM stupid enough to actually get a team to bite on a package like that, and that won’t be Waddell.

The fact that the Canes didn't offer this exact package at the deadline?? You wanna even try and estimate how many GM's didn't offer the same exact one as people in ACGM offered??? That's laughable man, thanks for that.

Appreciate that brotha!

From an outsider's perspective, it seems like there was less offense coming from the back end, and with only 1 year and a moderate 5 mil cap hit, it would be a win win. Sort of like having a Mike Green back on the blue line. I know he may be a luxury, but there are a lot of uncertainties on the back end, especially Sandin. Not sure if he's going to hit his potential or not, but that's just, as I said, my view as lonely, despondent, Flyers fan.
