I don't know if anyone has been paying attention this season.....but I think it's fair to say we have entered a "peak/height" in the "McDavid", the "Matthews", the __________ era. Or as the NHL has claimed, the new Golden Era. Agree or disagree. Call it whatever you want. But I think we CAN all agree it's been a treat to experience what we've seen this season. Individually, players are EXPLODING this year. I don't know if the league has ever seen a stat line like this. The amount of players that have hit career highs this year is, IMO, proof we are witnessing just another great stretch of the league.
Take a look at this list. And mind you, this is only players in the top 25 for scoring. I've included some other notables from this season that I am aware of. But I know there's more I don't know about.
GAP stands for what you would expect, career highs in goals, assists and points.
McDavid GAP, Draisaitl AP, Pastrnak GAP, Nugent-Hopkins GAP, Matthew Tkachuk assists yes and points probably, MacKinnon assists yes and points probably, Petterson GAP, Marner assists yes and points probably, Robertson GAP, Karlsson GAP, Thompson GAP, Rantanen goals yes and points probably, Jack Hughes GAP, Brayden Point goals yes and points possibly, Stutzle GAP, Nylander goals yes assists probably and points yes, Zibanejad goals possibly and points yes, Keller GAP, Hyman GAP, Brady Tkachuk GAP
Other notables not in the top 25
Quinn Hughes goals possibly assists yes and points yes, Montour GAP, Hagel GAP, Sergachev goals possibly assists yes and points yes
Let me know players who have also hit career highs this year that aren't on this post. Or any comments about these breakout or career seasons.
Thanks for reading.
