Too early for PLD isnt it

Description
Isn’t is premature for people on here to think Montreal should trade for Dubois in the off-season? Should you not wait until after the draft lottery at least?
If Montreal wins one of the 2 draft lotteries and slides into a spot for Bedard or Fantilli wouldn’t that make PLD unnecessary and potentially bind up Montreal with a big 4 down the road (like the Leafs have now): Suzuki, Caufield, Dubois and Bedard/Fantilli. Plus they still have to pay Guhle, Slafkovsky, Hutson, Farrell etc (at least some of whom will hopefully earn big paydays due to very good play). Am I wrong to say this?

Ottawa, who categorically has a better/deeper team than the Habs, added DeBrincat, Chychrun, and Giroux and STILL are not making the playoffs in the most competitive division in hockey.

We will need to pick our moment, and it's not this offseason.

I disagree if the price is right then we should get PLD. Never have enough center. Center can play wing and give coach flexibility for face-off. Also the more assets we have, we can use them to get what we are missing like a no 1 goaler.

I was eager to have him last year, but now i'd rather focus on Lafrenière so july 2024 we can sign Dubois. Fantilli Dubois Lafrenière with Caufield Dach Suzuki and Slafkovky Beck Roy is a great future top 9!

Ha! What do you think would be a fair package for him, given all the circumstances?

I don't think too early is an valid argument when trying to acquire a top 6 forward. Yes he wants to play for Montreal and we could draft one of the top 3 centers in the draft but not all prospects (even top 3 prospects) make the NHL. How many top 3 prospects have actually worked out for the Habs? We have had 11 top 3 picks in the history of the draft (10 excluding Slaf cause it's too early to guage his career). Of them only Lafleur has ever lived up to or exceeded expectations. Our only other notable 1st OVA selection was Wickenheiser and I think we would all like to forget about him lol. Point is is you have a chance to trade for a PLD even if you draft a Bedard, you still make that trade. It's better to have too many top players than not enough, cause you can always trade the excess to strengthen another position. So say we Draft Bedard or Fantilli and they hit their ceiling and trade for PLD this summer. Having a forward group of Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Bedard/Fantilli, PLD, Anderson, RHP, Slafkovsky and Ferrall allows you to move up to 3 of them to strengthen another position like RD or G.

of course it is too early.. we are still rebuilding and we need to draft high again the following year.. so wait on dubois and no to Lafrenier...see drouin for why.... Laf is not a top line forward but he would have pressure with french media and he will fail like drouin.....pass pass. A sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and ex-pecting different results.
