Kent Hughes drafting his students

Description
My dream scenario (outside of winning the lottery) is MTL manage to get another top 15-20 pick and draft the whole USDP first line (Smith, Leonard and Perreault).

Maybe CGY would be interested in Coronato's linemate, Farrell, for their 2023 1st.

Preds are looking for LHD prospects, and MTL have a bunch of them. Maybe they could trade one of Harris or Xhekaj+ for one of the two 2023 1st NSH own.

Or maybe MTL could trade up their 2023 2nd, but that would be a big jump (37 to top 20).

MTL could also add a mid 2023 1st by trading Anderson or Matheson, or taking a cap dump from another team.

Will Smith is a Right Winger not a Center.

Sure if you want the Islander 1st rd pick, We'll gladly take Nick Suzuki off your hands. Or else pass.

He's a center

Detroit's NYI 1st Round pick will cost you Cole Caufield. So now that you have that information, you can delete that trade on your own.

So hronek is now worth Caufield. jesus.

I thought Vancouver or New Jersey fans were the worst, but Detroit fans are something too.

MTL could probably draft two of the three with the two 1st they already own. I hope there's a way they can draft all three.

May need three top-12 picks to do so.

Caufield was at a goal a game in college, a year younger then than farrell is now, and playing in the big 10. not comparable

CGY fans seems to value their 2021 13th overall pick Coronato very highly. Farrell is a year older, but he's showing he's as good as him if not better.

If CGY is 100% sure they can get a better player with their 2023 1st, they should draft. If not, they should consider Coronato's skilled linemate Farrell.

I'm just thinking scenarios where MTL could draft the whole USDP first line at the 2023 draft.

Probably because of that draft pedigree, him being a year younger, and him having more upside

MTL 1st should get Smith. Leonard should fall to FLA spot if a couple teams reach for defenseman or other forwards.

MTL would need to trade for a 1st high enough to draft Perreault. Most mock draft have him between 15 and 20, but some have him as high as 10.

I would argue Farrell is the more skilled player. Bob Hartley compared him to Gaudreau today. I know it's a reach, but the kid is really skilled and a very good playmaker.

And, the trade just happened yet in the span of a few weeks that same pick magically becomes worth a 40-50 goal scorer and not Hronek of all people! I hate calling ppl delusional but these ppl dig their own graves.

A lot of them were saying Petry had to have a 1st attached to be dumped over the Summer. Being dead wrong is their niche. Dont rob them of it by bringing in Van and NJD fans.

MTL are not interested in trading Farrell for either Ruzicka or Pelletier.

Today on radio, Bob Hartley said Farrell comparable is Gaudreau.

I thought CGY would be interested in Farrell, who is as good as Coronato. For fun, how high a pick would you ask for Coronato?

I think Pelletier is a better Gaudreau comparable myself. Farrell seems like more of a Jonathan Huberdeau or Drouin Type Player = Pass First / Play Maker

I'd say Coronato's value has only gone up, he's worth a 5th to 13th Overall Draft Pick and Pelletier's value has gone up as well, probably a Top 10-15th Overall Pick after absolutely dominating in the AHL putting up 1.00PPG+ in his 1st + 2nd seasons. Ruzicka's might be a late 1st or early 2nd. I mean the guy has some work to do on his game, but he's proven he can produce offence; 0.41PPG with just 11:02ATOI in the NHL is Excellent AND he was putting up 1.00PPG+ in the AHL as well

Coronato > Farrell. You gotta keep in mind, neither have played Professional AHL Hockey and College isn't the same level. Also, Farrell is 1 year older than Coronato, so it's all great and stuff that Farrell out produced Coronato this season, but what do you think Coronato would do next season!? Better to compare Farrell's 2021-22 Season of 10G+18A=28PTS/24GP to Coronato's 2022-23 Seaason of 18G+18A=36PTS/34GP if you truly wanted to compare apples to apples. Farrell appears to be the Better Play Maker, while Coronato is the Better Scorer. Other things that make Coronato more valuable are his Right Shot, Size, Speed and the fact he Plays Centre

So while I agree with you that Farrell's value has increased significantly due to his fantastic 3 Seasons after being Drafted, he's still not as Good or Valuable as Coronato and therefore might be worth a very late 1st Round Pick, but imo is worth more like a mid-2nd + B Prospect

We need Coronato, so to answer your question, I doubt we'd even consider Trading him, but if we did, it would have to be for a Bigger Top-10 Pick, preferably being another Right Shot Centre otherwise a Right Shot Defenseman that we like/want more than Coronato

Dach and Romanov were both ending their ELC contract, so they're not technically prospects, but both got traded for a top 15.

I'm going to trust Hartley on the Gaudreau comparaison. I expect he didn't mean 100+ points Gaudreau, but more the style of player he can be.

I agree Coronato is worth more than him because he's a center, but Farrell is closer than you think. After a 53 points season in the NCAA, he's gotta be worth more than a late 1st.

Even comparing their 19 years old NCAA seasons, Farrell has a slightly better PPG production. Not sure Coronato would beat Farrell's 53 points in another NCAA season.

Like i said earlier, if CGY is 100% sure they can get a better player with their 2023 1st, they should draft. If not, they should consider Coronato's skilled linemate Farrell.

Small wingers tend to fall in the draft, even more so when they played with a skilled center. Look at Caufield in 2019. GMs are stupid.

I wouldn't draft him top 10, but if MTL got Smith at 5 and Leonard is gone, i wouldn't mind drafting Perreault with FLA 1st.

I want MTL to draft those 3 so bad. Please someone trade their top 15-20 pick to MTL.
