Description
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT JETS FANS. Before you yell at me in the comments on the rather low return on Dubois, let me explain myself. The return for Dubois will end up being low, and this is because Dubois can take his QO in the offseason, and that would walk him to unrestricted free agency once that contract expires. In that scenario were Dubois takes the QO with the Jets, Montreal can sign him to an 7-8yr deal in free agency. This means Montreal is treating Dubois in terms of value, as a rental. A prime comparable in value being the Bo Horvat trade, which my mock trade is sort of based off of although the return isn't exact. I also acknowledge that Hoffman isn't a fantastic player, but I think people would like him more if he was being paid less. This is also a low risk pickup for the Jets because he'll be a UFA next offseason, and could become a tradeable asset at the deadline. I also know that the Jets don't have a ton of space for Hoffman, but the spots should open up for him considering if they trade Dubois, that's signaling some sort of retool/rebuild anyways. Plus, the cap hit isn't a huge concern for the Jets anyway, especially for one year.

But why not wait if you're MTL? Well, it mainly just avoids the risk of him driving up his asking price in free agency, and getting him early naturally accelerates the rebuild. Even though some players do make it clear when they want to play for a certain team like Dubois has, the money is always a concern. Although I expect Dubois to take a small discount to play for MTL, he will still demand a good chunk of change. In my opinion, Montreal always wins somewhat in this situation because if they don't trade for Dubois with the Florida 1st, they can just draft a solid center instead (which this draft has many of), so not getting Dubois at the draft isn't the end of the world by any means.

That is it exactly at the deadline it is a 25-32 pick and our florida is sitting at 14 or 15 right now. That is a solid asset.....

And, that is why Chychrun was traded for a pick in the same range to OTT instead of going to the Kings in that 20-32 range. It means A LOT. The Habs are by far the best trade option for the Jets.

Jets are on track to miss the playoffs. The Florida pick could be a few spots before that Jets pick. That would be an easy sell to the Jets fans. with two picks in the top 20. For anyone to think that the Jets will get much more are delusional. Chevy wil have to beg and plead for even another 3rd round pick. Hughes simply says have fun at the deadline with that late 20s pick and buh bye. But, somehow Jets fans still think Chevy has bargaining. power. Boggles the mind.

they will be lucky to get that much you know honestly the habs should just wait a year.

Mailloux would be too much for me. Leading the OHL in goals among D, you can't teach that shot, skating and size. Ive heard pundits say his ceiling is higher than Hutson. Just no. No way. The ppl that complain about his past know nothing of his hockey future and mostly are noobs at evaluating raw talent.

jets get the mystery box or the Habs wait.

PLD probbaly goes to the wing. They'd try him next to Caufield and Suzuki I'm sure. Dach is the number 2. Beck is the future 3. Then you still have Evans, Dvorak. You got KIdney waiting in the wings. And they could draft a center this draft. in the top 6

I never once said Hoffman was better, or just as good as beauvillier. In fact I think Hoffman is easily the worse of the two. But you also have to consider that vancouver took on Beauv WITH TERM LEFT and were already and will be in cap hell and beauv contributes to that too. Hoffman doesn't impact the jets cap situation nearly as much

Vancouver wanted him...lol

First of all dach has been playing great and with his size we might start having him play the pther teams 1C and let suzuki play against weaker players .. Either way top 2 slots are solid. then we have dvorak who St louis really likes.. very good defensively and decent of faceoffs.. after that we have evans.. that is four. Not to mention kidney and Beck and whoever we draft in the first round.. so we do not need to overpay for Dubois. He would make our top 6 better but at what cap price and price of assets.. He he cost us a first and a top prospect like hutson and then want 9mil plus... this is too much and we should walk away.

the risk is let say we trade for him and we pay alot. Then dubois knows this and his contract demands are through the roof as he know we must resign him now... So he asks for 9.5 mill... montreal might be better off not trading for him and if in free agency he wants too much then can easily walk away.... we might get he cheaper that way and we have a better chance at a high draft pick next year without him on the team.

Dvorak is mid and just had knee surgery. Evans is a dime a dozen scrub. I profile dach ending up as a winger.

well it is so sad that you are so wrong... dach and i had knee surgery one day apart and i know i will be aready by august so i am sure he will be ready by october.... I think you are probably just a troll ...of courseevans is better than that and of course is better as a center... you fix your lens in your typically negayive way and you will be wrong as usual....

Knee surgery for random dude is not in any way comparable to the impact a knee surgery will have on a pro hockey player.

And again
Suzuki - higher end 2c
Dach - lower end 2c (assuming improvement)
Dvorak- mid to high tier 3c assuming return to form.
Evans: mid tier c4/13th forward

the issue is we dont have a top20 overall scorer right.. it is elite skill that the habs are missing.. so in the future they will have to win with depth and scoring throughout the lineup and that is not easy to do... so they need to find elite talent in this draft with their two top 15 picks or in nexts year draft... remember that if flo keeeps losing ott and buff could pass them and cgy and nashville have already passed flo so that second ist pick could start looking real solid.. for example flo has to play tor in tor tonight and likely will lose their fifth in a row and then they come to montreal tired and dejected.... boy if montreal beats them too i would say thier playoff dreams are over.. cool eh it gives montreal something real to play for on thursday... and if we can beat TB and pitt i think we could beat flo at home when they just played the day before.. cool eh?
