Gimme Zadorov

Created by: McSorley
Team: 2023-24 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 29, 2023
Published: Mar. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Zadorov is an absolute beast. He sucked against LA last time we played them, but looked very good last night. Wingers are afraid to go down the wall on his side when he's on the ice. He doesn't even need to throw a hit, it still has an effect.

Kings can trade Durzi for a 1st and 2nd if they want picks back in the 2023 draft.

Zadorovs pretty great, makes some pretty questionable plays sometimes, usually when he gets caught flat footed. He's also so big and gangly he looks really awkward moving the puck. He uses his reach to get around guys a lot, usually goes in his favor but it looks super risky when he does it. Delivers lots of great hits.

2nds probably a decent offer, don't know if Calgary would accept, probably depends on how expensive he is to extend.

Two 3rd round picks isn't enough to dump Petersen.

Yes, it is. Look at his contract and his buyout calculator.

I'm looking at it. It's still not enough.

What exactly do you think is enough? Because it sure isn't a 1st.

He is owed $11M in actual salary over two years, if he isn't bought out. If he is bought out, he is still owed his $4M signing bonus on July 1st plus $4.6M spread out over 4 years, for a total of $8.6M. Two 3rd round picks doesn't pay for $8.6M dollars in salary, and it definitely doesn't pay for $11M. Considering you are using two 2023 3rd round picks, that would lead me to believe this trade takes place on or before draft day, which is also before signing bonuses are due. If he is on CHI's books before signing bonus day (July 1st), then CHI is the team liable to pay his signing bonus.

CHI could easily command a mid-late 1st for an $8.6M cap dump. Would they? Probably not. But, two 3rd round picks definitely doesn't get it done. They would probably settle for a late 1st or a package of equivalent value.

And Chicago needs to hit the cap floor as well as acquire a goalie. The likely good of Petersen being as good if not better than Stalock isn't that far out. If he bounces back, Chicago could flip him half retained for a 2nd or 3rd.

There are plenty of ways for CHI to get to the cap floor without giving out huge discounts. They also don't NEED to acquire a goalie. In fact, what they NEED to do is give Soderblom and/or Stauber legit NHL ice time, especially with the probability of Commesso playing in the AHL next season. They don't NEED to be clogging up more roster spots. Also, CHI isn't going to make a trade predicated on MAYBE being able to flip a player.

You are seriously overestimating how hard hitting the cap floor is. Like CHI won't be able to find a bunch of teams desperate to unload bad contracts over the summer.

OTT had to pay a 2nd and 4th to dump one year of Zaitsev at $4.5. Now look at Peterson's contract and tell me what, other than wishful thinking, makes you think it'll cost less to dump.

OMG - CGY had to pay a first to get Montreal to take only one year of Monahan @ $6M
