the Ottawa trade is flawed from the beginning with the premise that Brannstrom is "struggling". Trying to get Ottawa to take Petersen's contract is a whole other beast lmao

Explain to me how playing only 5 NHL games total this season for Spence isn't even more of a struggle.

Ask and you shall receive. Spence actually has 29 NHL games with 9 points where most of his time has been spent on the left side (his off side) and in 2 AHL seasons he has 96 games played with 83 points. Edvinsson has 3 NHL games played with 1 point and has played in 51 AHL games and has 27 points. Both guys playing in the AHL against the same teams but one doing significantly better, in Spences first AHL season he played 5 fewer games and had almost double the amount of points. Granted he is 2 years older than Edvinsson so you might be able to argue he is a little more matured but that's about
it otherwise Spence produces more at the AHL level and I would say neither guy has played enough in the NHL to say one is better than the other at the NHL level.

I mean if you removed Chiabot Chychrun and Sanderson (all three LHD) from the back end the best guy the have back there is a toss up between Zub and Hamonic. So Spence would be a big upgrade on the right. Also Cam Talbot probably wont be there next season so they will need a tender other than Forsberg. Petersen has a 2.85 GAA and a .907 S% in the AHL so he is definitely playing better he might just need a change of scenery.

Hamonic is absolutely not better than Brannstrom, and it's not particularly close. Plus Branny can play the right side as well. Not gonna say that Spence doesn't have value or anything, but Petersen will require assets to move, and the Sens are definitely not going to be the team to take him. There are a whole lot of better goalies they can target for a 4.2 million cap hit, without giving up a Brannstrom who is finally coming into his own in the process.

All this isn't to mention that you're grossly underrating Zub, suggesting that Spence would be a "big upgrade". Also suggesting that none of Chabot, Sanderson or Chychrun are capable of playing the right side. Again, not acting like Spence is a bum or anything. But from a pure value perspective, he doesn't even cover the cost of dumping Petersen, let alone getting Branny.

And Brannstrom has played 182 total NHL games while only being a year older than Spence.

If anything, Spence is "struggling" more than Brannstrom is.

It's obvious that you haven't watched Brannstrom play, despite the fact that he has played a lot more NHL hockey than Spence.

The fact that you're unable to justify having Cal Petersen dumped on us as well should come as no surprise.

What you're proposing is like dumping your garbage on someone's driveway and then asking the homeowner to give you a $10 bill for a bag of nickels.

1. I'm betting him resigning will be 100% determined by how far the go in playoffs. If they don't make it out of the first round consider him gone
2. The only incentive he has to go to AZ would be the family aspect. Otherwise why get paid more to go to a loosing team? Phoenix is only a 5hr drive from LA.
3. Like i said i think its all riding on how far they go in playoffs that will determine if or when he decides to stay or not.

I don't think it's about that if Matthews leaves... I do think it's about walking into a grocery store near home and not get noticed by everyone or have media follow him around everywhere
