PLD without FLA 2023 1st

Created by: LIRIK
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 29, 2023
Published: Mar. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Consensus has MTL trading FLA 2023 1st and Beck for PLD. Instead, could it be CGY 2025 1st, MTL 2023 2nd (37OA) and Beck?

MTL keep FLA 2023 1st, draft another elite talent to help end their rebuild sooner.

WPG gets CGY 2025 1st and MTL 2023 1st, which is more valuable according to draft pick value charts.

Just a reminder that CGY 2025 1st is a 2024 top 20 protected 1st. It could easily be a top 15 1st in 2025 if CGY or FLA miss playoffs.

*Conditions: 1. If CGY’s 2024 1st round pick is between 20 and 32, MTL can take that pick instead.

Scenario: In the event CGY receives FLA’s 2025 1st round pick:
1. If both CGY AND FLA’s picks are NOT top 10, MTL will receive the better of the CGY and FLA 2025 1st round picks.

2. If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick.

Scenario: In the event CGY does NOT receive FLA’s 1st round pick:

Sub-scenario: CGY’s pick is NOT top 10
1. MTL will receive the CGY pick, and
2. If FLA’s pick is not top 10, is a better pick than CGY’s, and was transferred to another team due to prior conditions, MTL will also receive CGY’s 2025 4th.

Sub-scenario: CGY’s pick is top 10:
1. If CGY’s pick is 1st overall, MTL will receive CGY’s 2025 3rd, and the better of CGY and FLA’s 2026 1st round pick.
2. If CGY’s pick is 2nd to 10th, MTL receives CGY’s 2025 1st round pick.

Still too much.

Offer sheet PLD at 4.1million with an understanding he will get more later and watch the world burn

Winnipeg matches and they cant trade him for a year but... but his value?!? Doesnt mean ****, he's doesnt want to be in Winterpeg. Jets will be lucky to get a late 1st and some other scrub that worked at VJ's back in the day; Bye Felisha

No from Winnipeg. They'll just move Dubois elsewhere and get a 23 1st. There isn't enough value there for Winnipeg to wait 3 years for a mid first.

Might be a fair offer but what is the obsession with Montreal fans to obtain him this season? They still are going to finish out of the playoffs in 23/24 with or without him.

It would be funny tho. Its more of a point because certain ppl dont understand leverage.

sure, but you have to understand that its PLD who has leverage, not MTL. he has no interest of signing a lowball offersheet.

Its simply an idea. I never expect PLD to waste a year with a lowball offer. Again, it shows the disadvantage not advantage that Winnipeg currently holds. Its going to the interesting because there is no way the PLD distraction should last longer than the offseason. This will be about Hughes not making Chevy look silly. Barron and Mesar (2 late 1st round picks) should be more than enough for PLD with the Jets up against it and not able to recoup the same assets at the TDl.

Well get used to seeing them, only 91 days till the draft when this will likely be over, hopefully Chevy deals Dubois a couple days after the cup is won!!.. 🙏

well it has been and always will be about the jets feeling they can get better assert or not as a rental or from MTL. MTL will have to make an offer that they feel will be better than the rental price.

Barron and Mesar is defintely better than the rental price. Mesar is your developing top 6 center and Barron is your top 4 RHD they desperately need. Are they absolute> of course not! That is the risk when you are dealing at a position of weakness. PLD is gone. Time to think of a new era.

PLD says no bc why would he want to play in winnipeg for 4 million dollars. (bc if it came to this that offer would get matched).

i mean you can say its enough all night long, but in the end we dont know. It just depends on how much the jeta value them (and of hughes is even willing to trade for pld).

Hopefully nothing PLd adds little to nothing in a rebuild. I RATHER KEEP BARRON AND MESAR AND SEE PLD'S INTENTIONS IN 2024 OFFSEASON. THE HABS DON'T NEED TO TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH IN 2024 AND THEY DONT NEED TO PAY PLD 8M PLUS WHILE GVING AWAY ASSETS. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

i HOPE IT GETS MATCHED. Then they cant trade him and get nothing. That aint the problem. Its whether PLD would sign the offer sheet. PLD and the Habs could easily screw the Jets. My whole point was leverage but i doubt PLD would do such a low move.

Montreal would also have to acquire back their own 2nd which would tip their hand pretty obviously, and then winnipeg likely moves him elsewhere

It would be called tampering and a rather easy one to prove, with him taking two million less than qualifying offer. Ya that Dubois screams class, quiting on every team he’s been on since junior

Real fun would be if the shoe was on the other foot, and a Winnipeg guy wanted to come home, wouldn’t have enough tissues in Quebec

I guess they've finally realized they don't have the leverage they thought they had and are desperately grasping at straws.

Ok, what would be the best offer WPG could get for PLD as a rental?

It is kind of funny that there is a quote about not understanding leverage and then a super far fetched example is used to prove that they have it. What if Arizona is moved to Quebec City after the season and they offer 3 1st round picks for PLD because they want a French Canadian superstar…. Like it’s only leverage if it falls within the realm of a possible or likely outcome.

Maybe we deal PLD to Boston and he really likes it there and extends…. Maybe Carolina or Vegas make a play for him?

The reality is that Montreal has to come to the table with at least what he’d get as a pure rental. It’s got to have a 1st round pick, this year would be preferable to next year’s so the Florida pick is appealing. It’s got to have a high end prospect and a roster player we could use. With PLD and Suzuki, Beck seems like a prospect that could be offered up. For a roster player, for me that would be Barron to unite him with his brother age wise he helps the next core. Dvorak is a negative. We have Lowry at 3c and he isn’t top 6 quality so if we have to take him I’d need even more. If it gets to the point we give a prospect back like Rash or something so be it.

There is for sure a trade to be made but the Jets are going to have to take a haircut by getting the rental price, not the Horvat price where an extension could be worked out. Taking less than the rental price just isn’t a real possibility.

It should be very similar to and maybe even a little more than Horvat got. With PLD being younger, better and having a full year of team control
