I have to laugh a bit at the fact that all you did was fix the defense.

With Dallas Eakins, maybe sniffing a wilscars spot, but it's an outside chance. With a competent NHL coach, yeah, this is absolutely a playoff team in the Pacific.

No. They still can’t score. Yes they are worst defensive team in the league but they’re not much better offensively.

A new coach alone will help defensively next season but they’ll still need to find goals.

Do we get vintage Gibson though, or is he actually just washed?

He’s not nearly as bad as people try to claim him to be on here. He’s been on some awful teams. Put him on a competitive team and I think he’s a top 15 goalie.

I think he still has something to give, and maybe he's just not bought in rn, but the advanced metrics haven't looked good lately from what I've seen.

I have questions if the advanced metrics work as designed for the kind of beating Gibson, Stolarz, and Dostal have been taking this year.

I'm not saying they are bad metrics, but they were designed to spit out an answer given certain input assumptions, and I wonder if the Ducks defensive system, giving up the sheer amount of grade A scoring chances, may have broken the model somewhat.

There are some goals Gibson has given up this season that if he were a bigger, pure butterfly/blocking goalie, he may have stopped on account of passively taking up the net, but there's been loads of goals that he's been in the passenger seat for due to back door passes, deflections, etc.

I agree, there are some players/teams that break the system put in place for it. Like Brady Tkachuk for instance. Dude's play style is like no one in the league and the system just doesn't know how to handle a player like that. Ducks' defense might actually be so bad that the system just doesn't know how to cushion for Ducks goalies. I admittedly don't watch many Ducks games.

Theodore's the only one that really hurts my soul. In a weird way, seeing Hampus and Manson do well is kind of reassuring, because it kind of backs up the whole "The Ducks being crap analytically is a direct correlation of how the Eakins Swarm system is the worst in the history of hockey". Klingberg (small sample size) being back to his career norms is another example.

Montour is easily the funniest one of the bunch. I can't imagine anyone had him breaking out offensively at 28...good guy though.

that's clearly not the point. These are all defensemen that ANA just gave away.
