This is a catastrophe. Zetterberg is not going anywhere and I doubt Toronto is interested in giving up a first rounder for an aging player like him, even if he can help them right now. This team is clearly broken, but I still don't think a full rebuild is necessarily needed. There are/were several young players on the trade market that could make this team better now and keep the team young. For example, Nathan Mackinnon, Andre Burakovsky, Sami Vatanen, Anthony Duclair, etc. Now I know these players will cost A LOT, but the Wings might have the pieces to a couple deals happen. Trading draft picks in the next two drafts shouldn't be off limits because chances are that the player you acquire via trade will be better than whatever those picks turn out to be. Also, "Top" Red Wings prospects like Dennis Cholowski and Dominic Turgeon among others don't project to be number one defenseman or top line forwards, but they do have value in trades because of their labels as "Top" prospects. Lastly, a guy like Gustav Nyquist should entice some teams on the trade market, Anaheim being one that needs a goal scorer.
