I don't see Montreal adding another or trading a young D, because they already have their ''future top 6'':

Ghule - Barron
Hutson - Mailloux
Xhekaj - Harris

Ghule and Hutson are the two defensemans who will step up for a top D, especially Hutson.

Hughes puts up the same numbers, looked way better at the WJC, has real size and skating ability to transfer to the NHL, while playing in a real conference. I'm still waiting for Hutson to get past a PPG vs tournament teams. Hes at 7 points in 9 games after again being shutout by Cornell (Hughes is at 29 points in 19 games). Yikes

I did like Hutsons 0 points and -3 vs michigan this year while hughes had a goal and an apple

Lol. Hutson blew Hughes out of the water this year and it wasn't close. Hughes wasn't even one of the 10 Hobey Baker nominees LOL.

Milan Lucic has real size and physicality, is he better than Jack Hughes?

yeah. Hutson is in a legendary program that had david farrance putting up the exact same numbers a few years ago. Against a bunch of colleges who couldn't come close to competing in the big 10. Its why when BU played michigan Hutson didn't do jack

I believe that would be you. Every single reputable source has Luke Hughes as between the 1st and 3rd best D prospect in hockey (only Jiricek and Nemec really comparable). Meanwhile Hutson is at highest fringe top 10. The big 10 is simply a much higher level of hockey, and it's been shown at every turn. I'd be impressed with hutson if he kept the same production against top tier competition, but he doesn't. He looked clearly a tier below Hughes at the juniors, and is under a PPG against teams who made the NCAA championship

Time will tell, however, your "higher competition" thing doesn't mean as much in the NCAA. Look at A.Fox. Hutson is better than him at the NCAA level while Fox was playing in a very similar, if not slightly weaker division than Hutson.

The fox comparison is dumb. I'd say Hughes has been significantly more impressive than fox was at an NCAA level, but that doesn't mean he's comparable to him as a NHLer.

Hughes simply has so many more tools to help him translate to the next level that hutson doesn't. You watch them play and see that hughes flaws are stuff that should be easily fixed by NHL coaching, but Hutson will never reach the skating ability or size that Hughes has

you should look at farrance page, i think you made a mistake. maybe you are confusing him with someone else! he had 9 points in his first year compared to hutson's 48. was it another player you were thinking about?

Multiple players have shown that small size doesn't mean you can't be a star in the NHL. Hutson's skating is far from bad. Very few Defenders dangle through teams like him. Don't cry too much when Hutson becomes an elite first-pair D in Montreal.

as skilled as he his, come on. He's disgusting but he's also 150 pounds and will simply not be able to defend against NHLers. Even if he put on 20 pounds it would be difficult. His ceiling unless he hits some magic growth spurt to 5'10 180 (which even still is on the smaller side), is a PP specialist. Not a top pair relied upon D. Won't touch Luke Hughes.

and yes small players that have success in the show exist - but look at what positions they play. 99% are forwards, and even at that 98% are probably wingers.

Fox also has a few inches of height and 30 pounds of weight on Hutson, that's not nothing when considering the NHL transition.
