Pen's fans please stop trading Petey to Wings. If we did not take him last year when he was with Habs, why do you think we will take him now? Wings have cap.space but he does not fit the rebuild a d his cap is becoming an issue with what you get with his play. We are not collecting Michigan ho key Ayers we are trying to rebuild a franchise. It just does not make sense to take on Petry, as an article today was commenting on how Charoit maybe blocking a player from joining the big club next year.

I think the Miller trade needs a tiny bit more. Maybe another prospect.

The Petry trade also needs some but would likely be a bit more. Maybe a 3rd?

No thanks. We'll need a nice sweetener take Petry off your hands.

I think you're probably right. But I've heard this from so many Wings fans that if Yzerman does it, I will lose my mind.

I don't understand this feeling that Petry is a pure cap dump. He is an adequate defenseman who scores 40+ points a season. Yes, he is overpaid at 6.5 but if he were making 4.5 it would be more than appropriate.

Can you, or anyone, explain the hatred of Petry?

There's no hatred. It's being realistic. Petry is 35 years old and he has 2 years left on his contract at 6.25 mil AAV. He'll be 36 in December. Why is Detroit giving up a young player like Zadina for him? Zadina is definitely available in a trade but Yzerman isn't giving him away like he did with Vrana.

Zadina has done everything asked of him and has had no off ice issues. Yzerman has been as patient as he has with him because he likes the kid. He likes his attitude. He just can't score. He needs a fresh start with another team because he's being passed on the depth chart by younger players.

Why wouldn't Yzerman try to sign the much younger Severson in UFA? Detroit doesn't HAVE to acquire Petry just because he's a Michigan boy and his dad pitched for the '84 World Series winning Tigers.

Chiarot and Maatta already have the vet D quotient covered. Edvinsson, Johansson and Wallinder are on the way.

Why do (did) Habs and Pens fans obsess about trading Petry to Detroit? It's creepy. There's 29 other teams. I'm sure a team could use him. He has some value. But his contract makes him tough to move.

Petry is 2 seasons removed from being a 40 point Defenseman. He currently has 27 points.

RD's Clifton, Mayfield and Holl are also available in UFA. They're much younger and will be cheaper than Petry.

Ok. I mean if you think Zadina is going to turn it around alla Tage Thompson, that's your belief. Not sure I would share it.

Petry is 35 with two years left in the last 2 years (both down years by his standard) he has 54 points and is a minus 9 in 123 games. In Zadina's (young) career he has 68 points and is a minus 51 in 190 games.

Apples to apples Petry is more valuable than Zadina. But, like you said, you believe in his future so I understand where you're coming from.

I never said anything close to your first line. That's a spineless rebuttal. Ignore list you go. Tage Thompson? 🤣

Seriously? Tage Thompson was a talented forward who was liked by his teammates but couldn't finish. Then he turned it around and started scoring in bunches. Now he's one of Buffalos best players.
I thought it was an apt analogy.

But if you were insulted (for some reason) then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Petry is also 35??? Zadina at least has a chance to get better whereas Petry will only continue to regress?

Totally fair. As I said, if Detroit thinks Zadina is going to get better than he currently is, it wouldn't be a good trade but that is a risk. He might never put it together. Most guys don't.

Petry also might regress further. But statistically, Petry having two bad years is better than Zadina has been in his career so far.

Again, I'm not saying Det should or shouldn't do this trade. I'm saying that it's not laughable or insane.

Fair. I'm looking at it from the point of view that Zadina has a caphit of ~2m and is constantly pushed to the depth of the lineup. He works hard, and although invisible on the scoresheet, often has decent pressuring impact.

Oh I totally see that. I compared him to Tage of a few years ago for the same reason. You can see the potential but unlocking it is a toss up.

I was a big Tage fan 4 years ago and told my Buffalo friends about how good he looked in limited viewings of him. I'm glad he broke out. I hope the same for Zadina.

I hope the same too; but we cannot start labelling near-busts to Tage Thompson. He is an oddity.

I understand. Most near busts don't become Tage. I just think of him because I was so high on him 4 years ago and most people weren't. But whenever anyone talks about a player who they think will be great but hasn't broken out yet, their mental ceiling is likely Tage.

Still, I concede your point.
