I might stand alone here, but I do not like Marcus Johansson’s game…other than his skating. This is why I am not resigning him here. I am also not bringing Klingberg back, because he is not a good hockey player!

The Sabres should not trade a second round pick for Marcus Foligno imo. They are so talented up front that they don’t really need him.

If okposo and girgensons both leave, I would be quite happy with a 4th line of foligno, jost and greenway

I don’t like Jost for Buffalo in the long run, because he can’t win face offs. They need someone like Nico Sturm imo.

I don’t dislike him, but he’s gotta fix that issue if he wants to find long term success imo.

I don't think Dumba signs that term with that AAV. I could see him taking a cheap 1-year deal to rebuild value if he doesn't get what he wants in free agency, but I can't see him signing long-term at nearly a 50% pay cut.

I don't see Montreal targeting a Dman with the FLA pick, especially when they already have Guhle, Barron, Harris, Hutson, Xhekaj and Mailloux who are all good prospects - young players, with Matheson and Savard.

I belive they will target a young goalie with the FLA pick, like Hart, Askarov or Knight.

I wouldn't see habs trading down in the 2023 draft for Addison. The quality is way to high this year. The FLA pick will still be in mid-draft so they'll use it for a quality player with actual NHL return.

Addison is a 2nd rounder, has a -16 is not a sized player that MTL need right now, and has still has mid to low range stats after his first full season and going up and down for the last 2. It may fetch Habs's 2024 2nd round pick (AVS), but MIN would probably provide a 4th or 5th round pick with him.

This would at least give MIN a 2024 2nd round vs Addison/2024 4th round pick.

John Klingberg signed 1x$7M last summer when no one met his long term demand - I would not be shocked if one of the lottery teams that needs to get to the floor gives Dumba at least $5-6M for next season and then flips him out at the deadline if no one else offers him a 4-5 year deal at his number. If anything, the union would absolutely do everything in their power to keep a 28 year old, top-4 D from taking an absolutely terrible contract like this.

I’m as big of a Dumba fan and defender as can be found in Minnesota and he is simply not worth that much. He’s a very good 2nd pairing defensive defenseman now. IMHO he’s worth somewhere between $3 and 4m, depending on term.

The thing is, the market just hasn't backed that up - it'll cost more for a legit top-4 RHD at this point.

Some comps:

Artem Zub (one year younger, much shorter track record): 4x$4.6M
Josh Manson (2 years older than Dumba when signed, lesser offensive player): 4x$4.5M
Erik Gudbranson (2 years older, generally regarded as a stretch as top-4) 4x$4M
Rasmus Ristolainen (same age, similar trajectory from offensive to defensive D) 5x$5.1M
Connor Murphy (same age last year, always a DFD) 4x$4.6M
TJ Brodie (one year older than Dumba when signed) 4x$5M

Every one of those dudes is an RHD with production similar to what Dumba has done in Minnesota, and the guy generally regarded as the worst of them (Gudbranson) signed 4x$4M with a partial NTC. I don't think you can get Dumba for anything less than $4.5-5M AAV on an extension at this point. If you think he's worth less than that, so be it - but if recent history is anything to draw from, some other team will most definitely think he *is* worth it.

Great points. I guess I would just let him go then.

The guy I'd target if I was Minnesota (but also a guy I want the Isles to target) is Connor Clifton - he's mostly been third pair on Boston but his defensive numbers are very, very good. This year, he added some offense (5-16-21 in 74 GP), and he's coming off a $1M AAV. He's 27, Boston can't afford to keep him, and I think he could be signed as a solid second pair guy in the $3Mish range.
