Description
Imagine if CGY was seriously willing to move Tkachuk at the draft. I love Bratt, but I would've moved him and the 2OA pick in a hearbeat for Tkachuk. I would've attempted to acquire Colton using Sharangovich; maybe this isn't the exact package, but I'm sure the Devils could've gotten him if they really wanted him even if it required a little bit more. Finally, I'd scrap the Palat signing. Our lineup is crazy good rn, but imagine this lineup

Doubt Flo bites, but it s an interesting offer!
That 1st line could be the best line of the league for years to come!

This isn't an offer for Florida. This would've been the offer to CGY for Tkachuk at the 2022 Draft. So it would've been Bratt and 2OA pick for Tkachuk

Florida was a first place team last summer, and Jersey out of the playoffs. It might be a stretch to think Tkachuk would sign with Jersey last summer or this season. Might have gone right to UFA.
Like the thought on the trade though.

Y'all apparently don't know how to use Palat. There was no chance TB could resign him . TB is very high on Colton and Walsh really isn't their type guy so we'll keep Colton and his really cheap QO

The injury has hurt Palat this year. He's just been average; if I could spend the 6m elsewhere, I would

Unless you Massively over pay TB for or massively over OS Colton he'll be in TB. This doesn't come close to either.

What about a Holtz for Colton swap? I don't think TB would turn that down. Idk if Devils would offer that but I'm curious what you think

That FLA deal would have to be before 7/1 though I doubt FLA considers this considering they gave Huberdeau and Weegar to acquire him. Don't see Tkachuk Waving his full NMC in South Florida No state income tax, much much cheaper property tax and beautiful weather year round to go to they highest property and income tax states in the country. While it doesn't get Buffalo like winters they certainly aren't South Florida either.

Read the description. This would have been the trade with CGY at the 2022 draft

This trade would have been with Calgary and personally I'd have taken Weegar and Huberdeau over Bratt and Nemec

Yeah and that's clearly worked out well for CGY. Brad Treliving would be on his hands and knees to make this sort of deal now. Huberdeau and Weegar have been dreadful in CGY

In the long run this probably would be better for TB however,in win now mode and TBs track record of keeping guys in the AHL a little longer than pretty much everyone else I doubt they do it.
Holtz spends at least another year or so in Syracuse (that's just what TB does. With their win

Problem was that Tkachuk made his decision not to stay in Calgary (and his list of teams) after the draft. Fitzy offered #2 pick well before draft, when Calgary was still trying extend Tkachuk.

Impatient? I would be impatient if we were 10 games into the season, but we're wrapping up the year and both of them don't even look like half the players they were in Florida. Talking here today, if you wouldn't take Bratt and Nemec over the Huberdeau and Weegar package, then your nuts. In addition, Bratt will get 8m and Nemec gets 950k while Huberdeau is getting 10.5m and Weegar is getting 6.25m. CGY would save nearly 8m in cap which would allow them to resign Lindholm

Yup. Not blaming him; just crazy to think what could've been if Tkachuk had made up his mind on a trade by the draft

You're right. I liked the trade Calgary made....Hubie, Weager and the first. But horrendous cap management to resign Hubie to that new 10.5m X 8 contract and maybe Weager too. GMs do this all the time, make a trade then feel obliged to justified the trade by resigning a player.
Flames as you suggest would have been infinitely better by having the first rounder and 16.75m in cap this summer.

Yes. But, I really don't know if that is a much of factor. Let's just imagine MT didn't want to sign last summer and had entered the season as an upcoming UFA. St Louis and their current cap might have been an option. But you're right a successful NJ team with cap is attractive. Looks like the Sabres just might a year or two behind New Jersey
