Detroit doesn't want 5 years of a 5 million dollar player in his 30s. Probably need to add retention and at least a couple second rounders.

Why would the Kings make this trade. Zero incentive.

So Rust is a salary dump but Carter nets a good young winger?

Yeah! Who wants a consistent 20 goal scorer who plays the PK, has a good physical game, and consistently shows up in the playoffs? And they want to trade him for nothing? We demand this useful player at 5MM / per be cheaper. They better throw in a 1st and Crosby at 50% retention too!

Why stop at Gabe Vilardi and a fourth? Why not Quinton Byfield and Brandt Clarke?

Personally, I think that you're trying to be humorous, and everyone else isn't getting the joke.

Tampa overpaid for another cup. None of these teams are even close to the position Tanpa has been in the past few years. Also Jeannot's cap hit this year is 800k all your above trades completely ignore cap differences and/or dont come close in value or team needs

He had just posted another Pitt ACGM and pretty much every commenter ragged on him.

I light of this information, I rescind some of my earlier snarkiness. I don't want to jump on you Nick33. I don't like these trades but (if you were serious), man you do you. Have fun with it.

Well, if you makes you feel better, Winnipeg might accept this one. The rest are not realistic, with the LA one straight insane.

If he was younger. I'd say it is fine, but chances are pretty high he declines in his 30s as most players do. It might be fine for a couple years, but considering he is a .5ppg player this year, it could be a sign of the start of decline. Detroit has plenty of competent penalty killers. Suter, Copp, Rasmussen, Larkin, Veleno, are all good, and you can probably add Kasper to the list. 20 goals (just barely) is nice, but Detroit would have had plenty of those if Vrana and Bertuzzi were healthy, not to mention a healthy season from Raymond and a full season of Bergrren. That would have been Larkin, Perron, Kubalik, Vrana, Bertuzzi, Raymond, and Berggren. Probably Rasmussen and Copp too.

Basically, Rust is not needed. Generally you don't give a guy 5 million bucks with 6 plus years all in his 30s to pot 20 goals and kill penalties. That contract is going to age poorly.

You can if you understand the Context of the deal.
Cap teams at the max have to give up more then they should to make deals to help them longterm.

Brisebois and Yzerman are just the best in the NHL at it.
If cap isnt an issue then gaining a NHL Regular who's Tough and can score goals in year 2 of an ELC is worth paying for.
Brandon Hagel was off his ELC but on a super low cap with 3 years term i believe and look at how that played out for them .

Anyone who's operated or managed a business in North America guys the Supply vs Demand dynamic of this business

You do realize Copp is already doing the same thing and more, and is younger, right? Rust is playing with 2 centers that make their wings rich. Rust isn't a 20 goal scorer in Detroit.

Now Pittsburgh isn't giving Rust away. There is a lot of room between the 2 Detroit trades you've posted today try something that lands in the middle.

Getting a player who has 46p for nothing is very intriguing. But looking at his highlights, this guy is a PP merchant.

Agree to disagree. Yes, this season could be the start of a decline but that wouldn't line up with turning 30. He is a good two way player who can also score goals. I agree that as he hits his mid 30s one of the two is likely to curtail but so long as both don't, he'll only be mildly overpaid.

Yes, Detroit has a number of similar players but you can always use more (as evidenced by your own comments about injured players). I'm not saying Rust is worth the Moon but he certainly has more value than nothing and would not require retention to trade if Pit was foolish (or desperate) enough to do so.
