Both teams decline the Dobson trade. It's terrible value for the Isles - Addison's ceiling would probably *be* Dobson, and the pick is in the mid 20s. On Minnesota's side, while I think they'd be happy with the player, the cap just works against them - they've got anywhere from 3-5 forward spots to replace, plus Filip Gustavsson's an RFA as well as Addison, and they've only got $9M to spend. I think they'd rather bridge Addison at $1.5-2M and keep the 1st than spend almost half their cap space on Dobson.

And keeping Dobson means you can spend that $4M on Ghost instead on buying Josh Bailey out, keeping the 2nd rounder, and finding someone in the $1.5-2M AAV range to take over RD3 instead.

While I like the idea of a short term deal for Patches, dude just cannot stay healthy.

Dannibal spells it out nicely. Wild don't do this because of the cap issues and the RFA's and UFA's we need to re-sign. Although it wouldn't surprise me to see Addison traded at the draft but if he is not traded he will sign a bridge deal. MN isn't trading their 1st unless its packaged with another asset to move up in the first round or if it was no brainer trade (like McDavid for our first).
