The Retool Read description before trashing on it lol

Created by: penzillafan
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 13, 2023
Published: Apr. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hextall and Burke will most likely be fired.
Sullivan and the majority of the coaching staff will most likely be fired.
Pens tried to get Miller during the deadline and I still think they want him. Or another hight end player on the offensive side.
Find new goaltending, the two guys I would try to go after would be Swayman and Saros. Boston has Ullmark who's locked up and they have a lot of guys to resign. Nashville who is in a rebuild/retool stage drafted Askarov in the 1st round a few years ago.
Build the defense, because Letang can't play 25+ minutes at his age and with his heath history. Maybe bring in another proven dman, but they have young guys who were drafted in the 1st round.
PO Joshep could be trade bait, but only for the right deal. He's still young with a lot of upside.
GIVE Ty Smith a chance in the NHL.
Get rid of the Petry's contract for anyone who will take him, I just picked a random team and return.
Hopefully Carter retires
I think a guy like Nylander can really break out. In the few games he's played with the Pens he's looked very promising. If not thats why im leaving cap space so they can get someone who's proven for the 3rd line or maybe call up one the guys from WBS who has high upside.
Get rid of Granlund, and Vancouver has dumb management and would be willing to take him on.
Get a younger guy who I believe is solid on the defensive side and has offensive upside. Correct me if im wrong but I believe Barbashev covers both of those boxes.

That was when he was cheaper, now he has the big money deal and if you don't trade him all that fun trade protection kicks in.

I think Van would say yes if you include a B prospect as well.

The Min trade needs to drop the 3rd to a 5th or 6th. Petry has negative value at the moment.

I think Bos says yes if you again throw in a B prospect.

Boston has no need to trade either goalie but if they do it’s Ullmark and not Swayman.

I agree it's likely Ullmark but they do need to trade 1 of them. They don't have the cap space for both.

Edit: Bos has 11MM in space next year with 13 players signed. They need 10 more guys and have 11MM to pay them. They can't afford Ullmark and Swayman.

Right but he's saying Miller is on his old contract with no trade protection. His new one kicks in soon and it will have trade protection.

VAN says no. Petry blocks the ANA trade. If Carter retires his cap hit stays. I would classify Barabashev as below average to bad at defense.

Swayman not going anywhere let alone PIT. I don't think Burke will be out but def Hextall, and likely Sully. We need to get Ruhwedel, De****ty, and Carter out, Valterri is not ready yet, needs one more year. I don't think Légaré should be moved, I've seen him play and think he could be good. I think that there would be teams willing to trade for Petry if you retained at least 30%, you'd have to ask for a couple picks though like a 5th and a 6th, maybe two 5ths.

How is it a lottery pick? The penguins are almost guaranteed the 15th OA pick.

It's called making a trade, do you think Don Sweeney is just going to sit on his hands and not make some deals? Would be shocked if he trades Sway or Ullmark

Ok. Who does he trade?
Pastranak, Marchant, Debrusk, Zacha, McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo are the only players people would want.
Hall, Coyle, and Grzelcyk would need picks to move.

I agree Sweeny Todd makes moves but he has to just to get out of cap hell. He would need to clear out Hall, Coyle and Grzelcyk to resign Swayman and keep Ullmark. In that scenario he's paying a premium in prospects and picks to get cap space AND paying two goalies 5+MM per year?

Not a great plan.

Plus / Minus leader means he's on a good team. Since Boston just broke the record for most wins and have the largest goal differential in the NHL (by a lot), his +/- means very little. Unless you're implying that he is the main driver of his +/- and not the great forwards and goaltending on his team?

Forbort is a fine defenseman but he is 31, coming back from injury and only 3MM. Trading him doesn't help very much.

You don't think Swayman gets 5MM+ a year? Really? He is a good young goalie who shows he might have something. Reminds me of Raanta who got 4.3MM from Ari a few years ago. I would think Swayman asks for at least that. If he were an UFA he could get 6MM per.

And if Bedard was a UFA he'd have 15m a year, your points invalid.

Way to look at a perfectly logical argument and insert a comment that is both aside from the point and attempting to be dismissive. You're the real champion here. Congrats!

I appreciate it, your take just has me scratching my head, like yea maybe the plus minus leader isnt a complete black hole on the ice, didn't think that was an earth shattering take. Or the dman that plays the most minutes out of d men on the best pk in the league...
