Sorry, the Blues have zero use for another NHL goalie.

5.8 million combined for Mayfield and Schenn is less than the ideal use of cap space.

Would be far better off letting Friedman/Ruhwedel play and signing someone who is less expensive

I have been a big Vejmelka guy. I would like to see a new starting G here and cut ties with Jarry. Too many bad goals/non-timely saves. Gibson or Demko would be amazing. Wonder how good Blomqvist is going to be and when?

Yzerman isn't giving up 2023 picks, Especially not for one he drafted and has no use for.

Yeah i think buffalos going to want 2mil retention on petry...not the worst idea but pass.
The arizona deal is going to need to be much sweeter. No way they're trading 2 of the 3 best parts of thier future for a mid round 1st and a 3rd.

Given his age and decline of play, I doubt the Sabres would have any remote interest in Petry even if his cap hit was equal to an ELC. Sabres would rather take back draft picks for Olofsson if they had to rather than adding Petry IMO.

Hawks don't need Rutta, and his deal takes a '24 2nd to move to the Hawks. See Jason Dickinson trade.

Petry would be a good addition to Buffalo's defense.
Adding a couple of thirds, Buffalo should retain 50% of Victor's salary.
Olofsson would absolutely excell playing for Pittsburgh.

They could use an experienced right dman to play with owen power. They have a lot of picks and prospects and although its great to be rich the fun part is spending assets. With some retention petry's contract becomes managable and dman depth is an issue.

Why is buff retaining on ollofsson? I agree he'd be a great add for pit but petry is by far the overpaid one here. Is pitt throughing in more picks for the 1 year retention?

Yes, they need an experienced defenseman but that doesn't automatically include aging, injury-prone and overpaid options on the decline. They very likely will look for a legitimate top 4 defenseman to pair with Power and from whom Power can learn from.

Petry isn't an option.

Theres not a lot of options out there that will come at a realistic price. Between what buffalo would have to pay a ufa and offer in term and what realistically could be traded for, its sparse. Who would be your top 4 targets that arent injury prone, aging and overpaid?

In free agency, Severson and in trade, Hanifin and Murphy. Each of them is: 30 or younger; defensive-oriented; above average size; a mobile skater that would fit Granato's system; an experienced penalty-killer; and a strong leader in the locker room. While Severson could command a $6M contract at age 28, the Sabres would pay that for such an analytically-elite player who excelled this year with a NJ team that plays much like Buffalo wants to. Hanifin would require a lot in return but is the right age to fit in with the core the Sabres are building around. Murphy likely won't cost as much to trade for and also has a reasonable cap hit locked in for 3 more years plus personal familiarity with Granato for 1-1/2 seasons in Chicago.

Severson would be great but i think your paying him mire than 6, if NJ lets him hit ufa he'll be the premier right dman. You dont think he'll make seth jones money from a desperate team? Murphy,s a great option but nothing to say chicago is trading him. They'll need something to build around and its pretty bare bones there i think he'll cost more than you think. Probably a 1st and top prospect at least. Hanifin has a no move and i doubt calgary is even interested in moving him as he heads into his best years. Tanev seems like a more likely option out of calgary but nmc again.
I'd like all those guys too but you might.wanna get ready for more of a petry option. I'd like ekholm but i imagine 1. he probably wasnt coming here, 2. Probably cost the whole farm.
My dream guy tho would be adam larson

Severson will cost a lot - that's the likely reason why the Devils would let him go if they also have to pay Meier, Bratt and Graves. Adams seems focused on extending Dahlin and Power first, which can't happen until July 1st. That will likely mean he'll pass on any UFAs that go the first 1-2 weeks of free agency until he has his own two locked up and sees what the cap space left will be.

It's anyone's guess on what the Hawks will do - Murphy could be seen as their next captain because of his experience and willingness to endure through a rebuild but he's also an asset they may want to cash in on for more prospects and picks in a deep draft. If he's not dealt by the draft, I imagine Chicago taking the former approach rather than the latter.

Who knows what happens in Calgary with Hanifin - with Treliving gone but Sutter likely to remain, Hanifin seems in a less secure position than before (Treliving acquired him but Sutter demoted him to 2nd pair). Even if the team likes the player and the player likes the team, the Flames still have cap issues with 4 pending UFAs next summer and have to sort out who to keep and who to deal.

Larsson was my dream guy from the day Dahlin was drafted - he seemed like the perfect mentor to Dahlin in complimentary style and being a fellow Swede. Unfortunately, he's also got a NTC and is one of the Kraken's alternate captains and on 1st pairing with Dunn (who he compliments perfectly) so he's not going anywhere.
