A lot of creative moves...and then you went and screwed it all up signing Monahan and Drouin haha why would you want either of those guys.

No reason to sign Monahan and Drouin. They don't make the team any better

Bcuz they both used to be really good and since we have a lot of cap space to play with figured they're worth a gamble.

It's a gamble, hoping they can bounce back to their old form. Monohan could be a good 3C which would allow Miller to play on the wing. Drouin is incredibly skilled and in the right setting he could be great.

Drouin was really good in junior about 8 yrs ago. Has never been good in the NHL. Monahan's career was ruined by injury. Much more "worth the gamble" and still just a guy who likely just gets injured again.

Not even close to worth the gamble on either.

Drouin is not good, waste of a contract spot.

I'd take the gamble on Monahan at that value though.

No this is a terrible decision. Too old, not effective, a waste of cap space

the guy is 28... .

he was really good with the habs this year, but then again he got injured one more time... a risky signing if you want to compete.

Older than any guy we have acquired. We traded Horvat and he was 28

not really... mikheyev is 28, kuz is 27 now... on this post severson is acquired and is 28... you guys signed 30 yeard old miller to a billiona more years.

like its ok if you dont want him... but saying he is too old on a 1 year deal is just a ridiculous argument.

Difference is that Kuzmenko and Mikheyev are good players on the uprise. Monahan has been battling with injuries for years and is just not good. He isn't getting better so yes, his age matters

I think the point is that considering Monahan's age, it isn't worth the risk of him being injured again, regardless of whatever potential upside may be there. Sure, isn't not like the guy is 75 years old (or even 35), but once you start hitting your late 20s and have a history of injuries, your health becomes a major factor in signings and make people cautious about it. Furthermore, at 18 and injured it is time to stop talking about potential upside and look at the history of the player and the reality of what would happen if we added them to the team.

Monahan's injury history add 5 years to his age in my eyes lol. Would we sign a 33 year old and be talk about potential upside?

i mean, i think this is a weird semantic debate. i just reacted because he said he was '' too old'' while he is not really. and i feel your whole point is that he is too injured. i understand what you are trying to say and that there is a difference between being injured a lot at 18 vs 27. But once again the core of the arguement is that he is often injured, and not that he is too old...

you can tell me all you want that injuries add years in years in your eyes but it wont change the fact that he is only 28! And once again its ok if you feel its not worth the gamble, i understand that part and i understand why you feel he might not be a good fit. But once again... he is not old! He's just injured a lot lol.

(and he was surprisingly good with the habs, i still think he can be a 50 points guy somwhere fully healthy, but thata a big if! i understand if you say he is not a fit with the canucks though)

Fair point! You're right that it is essentially boiling down to injuries rather than age, but because of his injuries his age is an issue; ergo injuries is the problem. 100% a technicality and semantics thing!

Honestly, I don't hate this signing for the Canucks. I really don't like Vancouver's centre depth and Miller is waaaay better on the wing than centre. Signing Monahan, even if he only plays 41 games, lets us keep Raty in the minors full time as we try to swim the rest of the season with Dries as 3C, who is otherwise scratched.

Also, @therevanchist17 , I would hate to sign Drouin. Put Hoglander at 3LW and sign Motte for 4RW at $1.8 as a 2yr overpay lol. That would give us juuuust enough cap to have Dries as our 22nd skater just in case.
