Instant decline from Ottawa

They need a JBD type (defensive RHD), they don't need a Geekie type

Outsiders seem to think that because a prospect wasn't rushed in the NHL it's because they're not good...

"he can't crack a terrible roster"

I have read that comment so many times, for Batherson, for Norris, for Brannstrom and now it's JBD's turn

I'm not saying that's you said but more to say that we should not determine JBD's value based on fans perceived value. Outside of Tkachuk and Stutzle (elite talents who were both 19 y/o or close), every prospect has been developed carefully

Sens are not going to trade him for Geekie or something like that

Fair but in this case if Geekie costs a “slow developing prospect” and 7th then I would sure want the Pens to be in on that

Understandably, if you like Geekie and think he could help your team/need him, go after him

Ottawa won't need him. I would trade DeBrincat for Gourde and Bjorkstrand though

And I don't think we can call JBD a “slow developing prospect”, this was his 22 y/o season and now has 32 NHL games under his belt. Earlier in the season, when there was injuries to Zub and Chabot, he was establishing himself nicely but got injured himself too

One thing for sure, he will be seen as a "bust" for a while because he will never put up points. He's a pure defensive specialist but a thing is that he still needs to put on more strength, which is why he has not been a full NHLer yet. Another reason is because Dorion is the worst GM in the NHL (that would be very long to explain) and the team has been stuck with Zaitsev until the deadline and Holden declined too. Outside of injuries, there was not much playing time for AHL D-men
