for that much retention it would have to be a 1st or drop our pick and make it a 2023 2nd

Holland isn't going to buy out Campbell. The Oilers Cup window is wide open now and will be for the next decade - why saddle the team with 8 years of dead cap? That makes no sense.

Look at his career numbers, this year was an anomaly. It would be dumb to assume this is the new normal for Campbell.

Besides, his record this year was 21-9-4, so it's not like the Oilers left a bunch of standings points on the table when he was in net. His .676 points percentage is similar to Georgiev's .693.

Heh, no.

We take on a bottom pair dman who's making 2.75 for 3 more years, and retain half of Beauvillier, for the pleasure of giving up a 2023 3rd in exchange for a 2024 2nd?

Makes zero sense. Canucks won't take on Kulak unless a 1st is coming as well.

Beauvillier isn't worth his cap hit. Retaining $2M doesn't suddenly make him worth a 1st.

over his time here in van he was about worth his cap hit, especially when he played with EP40

What on Earth? I never said Beauvillier was worth a 1st.

However, Beauvillier retained, taking on an overpaid 3rd pairing dman with 3 years left, and giving up a 3rd? That's worth EDM 1st, which would be a late one.

It's 8 years, and Holland is too smart to do it.

its 8 years of dead cap but 4 years of pure dead cap and 4 years of savings. a buy out is a good option

No it's not. This is the Oilers Cup window, artificially handicapping the team would be insane. The odds are that Campbell bounces back next year anyhow.

your right. the window is now. which is why the savings are now. do you know how buyouts work? the penalty enforces after 4 seasons, which is after all the major contracts are over and after the window is closed

The window isn't closed in 4 years. shakes head

Their Cup window is 10+ years easily.

no its not. with a weak farm system and aging impact players (so many of them like kane rnh ekholm nurse hyman) having an extra 1 mil of dead cap for a couple middling years will not hurt them at all. the savings are super important now though

The impact players are McDavid and Draisaitl. They'll be top players 10 years from now. Skinner and Bouchard will be around in 10 years, and the team is doing a good job developing guys like McLeod, Broberg, Lavoie, Holloway and Bourgault.

The team will have plenty of time and cap space to bring in additional support players as older guys retire.

The Pens were a threat up until recently despite not having a great supporting cast, and the Oilers have better impact players than the Pens did.
