Take out Newhook and Alexeyev and add a 3rd from the Avs and I’ll do it. AA looked great with TVR so I wouldn’t t move him yet

That's a lot of budget signings, you best win the cup this year so that a main reason to sign those are for a shot at the threepeat.

The Canes have been trying to land Puljujarvi for over a year before they got it done. Why would they immediately just give up on him? Yes, he hasn’t lit the lamp as much as the Canes would like, but he has been incredible defensively and has brought some much needed grit to the lineup. Worst case scenario JP is Fast’s replacement, which is what it is looking like will happen.

It's pretty clear Byram's next deal is gonna determine if G stays or goes. I like the Sillinger idea. I dislike Drouin. I might prefer re-signing JTC and keeping Newhook to help that 3rd line (also backup the top six for 81 & 92).

Interesting. Are the Caps/Caps fans that high on Alexeyev. Pretty sure I'd seen him traded on here a few times already. You'd rather Alexeyev than a potential future replacement for Kuzy in Newhook?

Then the Avs would have to take out Newhook and probably add in a pick like your fellow Caps fan suggests. No way you'd get both.

I'm not defeatist but I think the repeat is unlikely though I'd be over the moon obviously. With how the teams in the East have loaded up and Boston the way they are and of course the body blow in Landy not coming back and how dinged up the Avs are I can't see it. However the Avs play it though, budget is going to be a major factor going forward.

We have McM Protas and Lap + 8oa pick. I’m actually low on Newhook after seeing how he handled being 2c this year. Respectfully

I would have thought that the 3 mil QO would be prohibitive. I didn't look at the 'canes situation in depth but looked like a similar situation to the Avs cap-wise going forward and I'm surprised to hear a fan say they'd want to spend 3 mil on JP. It was one of my biggest arguments against the Avs trying to acquire him when some of our fans suggested it. Obviously he could still sign there for less but the ball would be in his court if he isn't qualified and chooses to go elsewhere, would it not?

Yeah I think you're right on the first part. There's method in my madness in giving Drouin a try. For that kind of money I think he'd be worth a shot. He'd give the Avs an option with MacK though I'm not big on the whole 'junior chemistry' thing after this length of time and also on the PP and he's a playmaker first and foremost so with Sillinger appearing to be more of a shoot the puck kind of guy and JP as a defensive forward I felt that all kind of meshed. I also wouldn't be opposed to looking at a way they could keep JTC (on the right deal, maybe less money than people think, more term and some NTC control for him if it made it work) and Newhook I only really traded to try to add a young solid LHD. Not really all that necessary though.

Biggest problem with Newhook this year was more that the plan never worked out. The intent IIRC was to play him between two solid, defensively capable, experienced wings in Landy and Val and basically let him play and find it. The talent is there but it comes in bursts and flashes atm. Low on consistency so far. Like most of the Avs this year he's been moved around all over though so pretty hard for a young kid to get that in those circumstances. One thing I'll give him (and hope I don't jinx him) is that at least he's been durable compared to most of the rest of the team lol. Do get the argument about the other options you have though and I'd be happy with a first and third for Kuz, though might have to go 1st and '26 2nd (the Avs like trading 2nds lol) so we can keep the '25 3rd for the Lorentz deal! squinty smile

They've got 27 million in cap space and need 6 skaters and one goalie (assuming Svech is back)

In a lot better shape than it appeared at first glance then lol. I'm guessing they'll make the QO then.

I don't think Girard is the type of defenseman that the Jackets are really looking for, but if you take out Sillinger along with Merkley and Maitsev then the Jackets consider it.

Then it'd be a no deal as far as I'm concerned from the Avs. Girard is worth more than just a late first even in a deep draft but I do get that he may not be the ideal target for the Jackets so may not be worth that to them. Seems some Jackets fans on here like the idea of Girard, others want someone bigger and more physical. Based this one on a couple of trade proposals from a Jackets fan.

yes, what you said. But also, why is Girard valued so highly? Didn't even need him to win the cup? (mostly)

24 year old cup winning top 4 puck moving D who can play upwards of 20 mins a night, good in transition, is good for 30 pts a year even when paired with the likes of Jack Johnson. Defensively reliable, plays both sides of the D equally well. On a sweetheart contract. Now if you want a big hitter he ain't for you but much is made of his lack of size and it really isn't an issue unless you want someone to win a shoving match (and Columbus signed EG for that) he uses nouse and positioning but can actually hit quite well for a small guy. IIRC statistically he was pretty comparable with Jakob Chychrun who garnered a first and two seconds from OTT. You can argue Sammy was with the Avs and Jakob with the 'yotes but most of the time Girard didn't have a regular D partner or had anchors like JJ (much as I like the guy). So why do I want to trade him with all that said? I don't but one of Toews, Byram and Girard likely has to go and Girard is arguably the most tradeable of the three. As for the cup comment that was more the strength of the other guys compensating. It's not hard to not miss a guy on a loaded roster.
