I doubt the gap from 5 to 9 warrants a top 20 pick. Maybe two 2nds

But you could easily flip one of those picks and the Devils pick into a top 20 pick imo

IMO it definitely does. It costs a lot in the NFL. I would add a Sharks third to the trade though

I love Will Smith enough to do that deal, he's just exactly what Detroit needs.

I think sharks and Detroit would be a good fit. Detroit is getting closer to their window and probably would prefer a benson / smith whereas sharks have more time to build their pool

He probably will be off the table because Montreal exists and will probably draft him

I take this as a Wings fan.
How are you guys on LD, though? We have too many good LD prospects. I'm sure we can through of 9OA + Al. Jo + other stuff instead of the NYI pick.

Ok so if that happens either Carlsson or Michkov will be available.

I think the price is fair, but would prefer to do Johansson/Kuba/Zadina/Veleno + 9oa + 41oa.

Tbf I think the only two of interest for San Jose out of that lot would be Zadina/Veleno, and then again maybe only Zadina because San Jose's prospect center depth is pretty good.

If smith goes before 5 it means Carlsson or Michkov falls and I'm ok with either.

If I thought I could get Oliver Moore at 9 I wouldn't do it but 5 is smith at worst and maybe michkov if teams get nervous.

Sharks pick if it is 5th overall will be before the Canadiens, Redwings choice will be benson or smith most likely

We are stuffed on LD: Vlassic, Ferraro under contract for 3 more years. Thrun + Knyzhov are likely competing for spots next year. Mukhamudulin is one of our top 3 prospects. Then we have potential 7/bottom pair guys in Cicek Ohotiuk and Furlong

Crud.
I'd still do this trade, though. Would hope to not ship out our NYI pick, but meh whatever. Draft Will Smith [or Carlsson] and grab Willander early in the 2nd round.

I wonder if something like #9, Hanas and one of our seconds would be enough? Pretty good prospect who is a former second round pick, would be closer to being a part of the team compared to a second now.

Honestly I'm really torn, if it's Smith is he better than what the two possible players drafted would be? I do think we need more elite talent but there seems to be alot of really good players in this draft and we could fill a couple holes in the organization with that second pick.

It all depends on how high they are on smith or idk Benson maybe. If you think they're a tier above Dvorsky, Moore or Leonard then you go get them if you think say 5-10are all pretty close you don't. If we ended up with Dvorsky or Leonard and idk Ritchie or Danielson at 18 I'd be fine with it.

I personally think that, although something like Reinbacher + Barlow would be great; getting the elite #1 offensive talent is even better. Yes it still leaves a hole at RD, but we still have three 2nd rounders that we can use to draft them. Or we have two 1st rounders in next year's draft that we can use to fill that hole with a trade.

We NEED elite talent, not just great.
