My thoughts are, both guys are on expiring contracts. If a deal cannot be worked out on either guy, they can flip them at the deadline. Every team has a way to make the money work. Scheifele is a guy who could get Huberdeau firing again and Hanafin is a big strong Dman that could fill a whole on Winnipeg. In the end, if neither player re-signs. The value is the same at the deadline.

Huberdeau doesn't need more major changes, he just started to settle in by the end.

PLD has already shown his intent to go to his hometown team of MTL but for some reason he would be willing to sign with their biggest rival.....

You're asking too much for Schmidt, and NSH is about the least likely team to be interested in him.

He would be a cap dump for Winnipeg, but I think he still holds value for someone.

Not interested in PLD. The entire hockey world knows the only place he will sign is Montreal. No other team is going to waste the assets knowing that.

Beyond that…salary cap. Doesn’t work.

I wrote in there that it comes with an extension. Of course, that trade does not happen without an extension.

The only problem with your opinion is MTL has two top six Centers already. PLD missed his moment.

Just bc at one time his agent told him MTL had interest doesn't mean its a forever trade. MTL moved on and PLD needs to do the same.

And Boston does not have the ability to extend him either. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Boston has 6-7m of cap space with 15 players signed next year. They have to shed 6-10m just sign their own RfAs and fill out the roster with ELCs. Anything after that they have to move out equal amount of salary for whoever they bring in.

They are not dismantling the team for someone who does not want to be here and don’t desperately need.

Lol when did MTL move on? And when did he move on from wanting to be in MTL? It was literally reported again before playoffs started that both teams were working on a potential deal because it's where he wants to be.

Then you trade someone else. You don't pass up a prime center because you want to keep a bottom 9 winger.

I'm not one to usually ask for a source but in this case I have to ask for a source.

I'm pretty sure I listened to that pod. Everyone knew Matt Duchene wanted to sing country songs in Nashville, but I doubt PLD's inevitability in MTL.

We'll see what happens...
