Brodie on the Point goal was in the corner on the opposite side he was playing. I think he had a brutal game. He has ZERO physical play and can't move anyone from in front of the net. McCabe and Schenn are the only d-men that are nasty in front of the net, Gio does his best, the other 3 are useless.
Agree, I think the team structure is/has been its flaw all along.
When you part with assets to address physicality/leadership every year (Foligno, Hunt, Simmonds, Clifford, ROR, Muzzin, Schenn, McCabe, Lafferty, Jarnkrot, Acciari, etc....) theres something wrong. Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander = its their team in EVERY way, yet they cant seem to lead or play physically. Giordano, Schenn, Holl, McCabe are nice stay at home dmen, who should stay at home. But Brodie, Reilly, Liljegren have to do more.
The biggest problem last night, because the forwards looked so lost and couldn;t control/possess the puck, was that some of the Leafs started to lose control and tried to make a statement using their physicality poorly. (During the regular season, McCabe definitely gets a penalty for his hit, Bunting knows hes being watched and still jumps into Cernak, holding/slashing/highsticking as they're getting outworked/skated). TB outworked and outskated the leafs, the goaltending was average AT BEST, the forwards rarely looked dangerous or controlled play....but really just another post season that the Leafs defense, team defense and goaltending looks pretty average SO FAR.
