Clearly this is a terrible trade for the Flames in the short(er) term, but what happens 4 yrs from now when both Gallagher and Anderson are off the Flames books, but Huberdeau is still on the Habs?

I wouldn't, but that is just because I don't see Anderson as a liability, he just put up 21 goals on a very weak Habs team. Also Montreal needs scorers not more pass first players.

Flames don't consider at all.

This is like comparing comparing the Lucic and Vlassic contracts to the Karlsson contract

So Calgary gets significantly worse AND adds salary for the next 4 seasons? They obviously decline

I don't think the Flames would do that. There's a decent chance Huberdeau bounces back to being a point-per-game (or close to it) player. Even under the best of circumstances it's hard to see that level of production from Anderson and Gallagher.

Although, Don Maloney is a ****ing moron, so who knows.

"but what happens 4 yrs from now when both Gallagher and Anderson are off the Flames books"

I mean, it's old data, but considering the average NHL GM tenure in Canada was (as of 2016) 4.79 years, biting down on TWO poison pills here in Anderson and Gallagher with the hope that "Hey, maybe I'll be around when their contracts are off the books!" seems like a really, really dumb move.

Much rather keep Super Star Huberdeau, who will rebound next season and play out his contract delivering good offensive production, but for CGY to consider Trading Huberdeau and to make it work, it'd have to be something like Josh Andersson + Kirby Dach + Jake Evans FOR Huberdeau + Adam Ruzicka WITH Sutter staying behind the bench

And I believe MTL wins that Trade in both the short and long-term

I don't want Anderson anywhere near the Flames. Ignoring that the production would be a drastic drop off even from Huberdeau's worst pro season, neither can stay healthy, combined they would cost more than Huberdeau who can bounce back, 4 years of two worse hockey players during the most open period of the Flames window would be absurd. This is horrible for Calgary short term as you said but even 4 years down the road it's ugly, Huberdeau's contract is palatable when the cap is projected to be 92 million+ by the time Gallagher and Anderson are off the books.

You know that Huberdeau's value was Matthew Tkachuk less than a year ago without a contract, right?
