Finding a possible top 6 LW

Created by: OkMan
Team: 2023-24 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2023
Published: Apr. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wouldn’t have to be searching for a 2nd line LW if we just kept Tolvanen.

I don’t love the idea of moving Glass or Novak to wing, so I decided to trade Johansen. However, I could see Parssinen switching to play LW this season. Guess we just have to wait and find out what we’re gonna do with all these centers

Not really seeing why the Yotes trade a guy entering his prime years, locked up at as near as makes no difference half the AAV, for RyJo, even if it comes with a 2nd and a 3rd.

They are trying to ball on a budget with how bad their gate revenue is with their temporary stadium, 8 million bucks a year is going to hurt them financially and it doesn't seem to line up with their timeline.

The coyotes aren't gonna pay Johansen, it's like 8 million in real dollars

I was sort of thinking that a guy like Johansen brings a strong locker room presence, but he also helps them meet the cap floor. Since the Little contract is expiring, they might need a bit of a boost to reach it. Of course I haven’t done the math, but I assume that this move would be helpful in that situation.

They only need about 9~10 milion for next season last I checked, but they also needed 8-9 players as well, so not really applicable. Only teams in the league that I know are below the cap floor for next season without any major internal signings to accomplish are Chicago and Carolina.

Carolina could be a fit, as they like taking distressed assets, but they only like to take them for cheap. I would at least clear out the 8 million to be used elsewhere.

Edit: Little contract runs to end of 24-25 season, as does Voracek, and Weber goes until 26-27 season, Ladd contract ends this season. They currently have ~55.5 million in cap spent, but only have 12 roster players, they can get above the cap floor on 11 league minimum deals.

Yeah, but I do think that going into the 24-25 season, they will have some problems. The Little contract expires then, and it’s hard to see the math working out. Maybe going into that season a Johansen to ARZ trade would make more sense

The Coyotes laugh at that offer, Ryan Johansen has next to no value. Crouse has tons more value than this pathetic offer.

Do you think the Preds would be willing to move RyJo at half retention for a 2nd/3rd rounder? Considering they are either looking at paying a premium to move his full hit or recouping some assets by eating some of his contract, one would imagine they would be willing to considering the path they are currently traversing. Cause I could definitely see the Canes taking a chance on RyJo at 4mil.

I wonder if a Johansen Fabbri swap could work, barring Fabbri's health. He's very effective when healthy but just has had a couple knee injuries.

Nino Niederreiter had very similar production in 2019 to what Lawson Crouse has now. The Wild got a struggling Victor Task out of a deal to CAR. I would say that this offer was equal, if not more value. The Yotes get picks and someone that’ll help their cap situation. I can see some discontent, but this is most certainly not terrible

I looked at Fabbri as a possible second line guy, but I think NSH would be looking for guy with more size. His injury concerns me too. Definitely worth a look though

I’d love that for the Preds. They need to open Johansen’s spot up due to all these young centers coming in. I think it would work well both ways

I would really like a guy like Johansen in Detroit to fill 2C. Half the cap and 3 years younger, really fast too. The injury he took this season I guess was just minor so he should be healthy to start the year.

Would maybe trade a RHD? Carrier or Fabbro would be of interest to us. We could add a guy like Veleno if we could work out a deal for one of those two guys.

One of those two is probably gone. I think they both probably carry a value of a second round pick coming back to us

Maybe something like Johansen and Fabbro for Fabbri, Veleno and a 3rd? Maybe instead of the third McIsaac as he is close to NHL ready as well.

Has RyJo been better on the wing or at C? He could be set up for success on a 3rd line role for more depth scoring.

Joey has just been center for us. He could play as a top 9 C for you guys. He seems to be able to plug in up and down the lineup

I think something along those lines could work. I’d prefer to keep Fabbro though. He’s just real solid for us. Carrier would be the better option for us to get rid of imo

Not giving Livingstone minutes would be a bigger mistake. Barrie doesn’t fit into our long term plans, and Carrier (or Fabbro) don’t fit well on a pairing with Lauzon. In this scenario, we still have more than enough guys to play RD. Not sure what you issue is with it

Barrie is obviously expendable, but Livingstone isn't a top 4 guy and looks too slow to be one. Keep him at the #6 spot, roll Carrier with McDonagh and put Fabbro back with Josi. These guys don't grow on trees
