Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Due to the teams lack of scoring, I propose that we use draft capitol to get Smith, Leonard, and Perrault. (Trading a 1st and 2nd to move up if necessary) Depending how the draft unfolds, Moore is an option here also. I traded with PIT to get a third 1st Round pick to insure we can get all three.

I think Edmonton is in a tough spot with Bouchard and would be willing to go all in, up to and including Johansson if necessary.

These moves may not pay off next season, but will really improve the team in a few years.

I'd really like to hear from Edmonton fans here. I've seen a lot of Oilers fans pretty down on Bouchard, some sky high on him. I keep seeing fans say he is a liability defensively. Is this true? I read an article or two saying the Oilers might consider trading him because it seems that terms are pretty far apart.

Every time I see him, I'm impressed, but I only see him play few times a year.

Paired with Ekholm he's been really good. He's an offensive defenceman so he's going to have his liabilities defensively. He has a ton of potential, I don't see any world where they trade him unless they get a substantial return.

Bouchard is a very good young defenceman, has been the whole time. Certain fans and media tried to make him the whipping boy for awhile, turned into the snake eating its own tale kinda thing.
The Ekholm trade coincided with better team defence too, which Mattias could have helped cause as well. But Ekholm alone shouldn't be used as an excuse for Bouchard being better.
I try to read things backed with stats not opinions and they suggest Bouchard's defence partners have benefitted from him as much if not more then he has them, like with Duncan Keith before, and from Mattias Ekholm himself in multiple reports now.

If you had a player like Bouchard, would you move him for a reclamation project, a borderline prospect the likes of which every team has 3 or more of at a position the team doesn't need, and a late 1st & 2nd a year from now? No, you wouldn't. You'd bridge him at 4mil * 3 years like Dobson before him and, in the very unlikely event he outright refuses such a deal, then you open the market up to the league where you can be certain that at least 25 teams will have better and/or more suitable offers.
