Mesar was drafted by Hughes so i dont think he will be traded.

I think it will 2 guys out of like Kapanen, Tuch, Mysak, Norlinder, Strubble

Those guy definitely aren't on the same tier as mesar so likely wouldn't be enough. Those players are all likely bottom 6/ahl players. Jets would want a prospect with upside which those players aren't

Close enough. Kidney in place of Mesar would be ideal here, simply because Kidney was a Bergevin pick so Hughes may be less attached to him.

Kidney is also pretty good. I choose mesar for the upside and also a right shot. He could be a right shot lehkonen type player who's a good middle six player. Kidney I'm not sure how much I'd put into his stats as many players can dominate the q. He's a skill player and probably doesn't get top 6 time.

Mesar would be more ideal for the jets imo. Kidney has done better and should have more value than mesar within the system but not that far from each other. If Kidney is the offer and the jets counter with mesar instead are you really saying no with how close they are to each other?

To ensure that he doesn't change his mind and get a contract that is more affordable long term are major reasons to name a few. Leaving it up to fa is risky and you are actively letting him hear from suitors who realistically could be better fits. If they trade for him the long term contract would be cheaper 8-8.5m compared to 9m+.

This is probably within the realm of possible deals the Jets would look at.

Because the Jets need to get him off the team and plan their future in a rebuild/retool but at the same time they somehow have leverage.
Make it, make sense.

The argument is that when a player of that caliber is available, is young enough to be part of your group long-term, and has expressed interest in playing for your team, you might not want to risk not getting him at all.

And there's the other side of the debate where this team still isn't a playoff team with Dubois, so they should not deal futures for him and they should just wait to get a player of his caliber in the rebuilding process.

I understand both sides of the debate, but I still lean toward the former. It will be interesting to see how things turn out.

With this deal and another top 20 pick, the Jets are building a pretty good prospect pool tbh

Yeah, it will interesting to see which way the Jets go this summer with the guys that are 1 year from UFA.

Between McGroarty, Rashevsky, Lucius and Lambert , the offence is pretty good. They probably need a RD propsect but otherwise looks great . And maybe draft a goalie to eventually replace Helly

About Mesar/Kidney...

One thing to consider about Mesar is that he's Slafkovsky's close friend, since childhood. I know these things shouldn't really matter (especially to the Jets), but it kinda does when it comes to take care of your 1st pick overall from a year ago. If the Habs add another young center at #5, I expect Kidney to be a lot more available than Mesar for the Habs, eventough he performed better this year.

Why do you even want Dvorak? Most Winnipeg fans just tear him down and say he's a bad Center. Habs like him. I don't get why he's a "throw in" all the time. Are you valuing him at a late 1st, which is what the Habs paid to acquire him, or what?

I hope it's not Struble. Got a good look at him in Laval during the playoffs and fell in love.

Why would the habs need to add a 4th? Mesar is as good as Raty (probably valued higher by Hughes) and we just had a thread on the Horvat trade comparison.

It's nice that a home province star wants to actually come home, and Montreal should look into it for sure, but they absolutely could wait, and even if they miss out they still have $8M+ to spend elsewhere. Dubois is good but he isn't a can't miss one in a decade opportunity.

I doubt it will be Struble, it's very bad business to sign NCAA prospect and immediately flip him, plus I think he has somewhat of an off ice relationship with Hughes (played with his son).

3 of the other players named there have pretty much no value so that doesn't do anything for the Jets either IMO.

No I'd rather Hoffman myself but many habs fans think Dvorak is expensive to keep with an acquisition of Dubois

Personally, if WPG values Hoffman more, I'd be more than okay with keeping Dvorak and ship Hoffman instead. I'm sure we can find a taker for Dvorak down the line, so that shouldn't be an issue for the short term.

So in another thread you said there is no spot for Ylonen ($775k × 2 years) 23 years old, pace of 35 pts / 82 games but you would take Hoffman ($4.5M × 1 year) 33 years old, pace of 41 pts / 82 games (in a bigger role).

The fact that you want Hoffman over Dvorak tells me you view Dvorak as negative value, which is the issue with all of the Jets trade offers on this site... it's like they think the habs need to add for a cap dump.

Dvorak was just acquired 2 years ago for a 1st + 2nd, he surely isn't worth that now but he isn't worthless

Yeah I completely agree I see them as interchangeable for whoever mtl wants out more. Not like I'm fixated on Dvorak. Both make a bit much for what they provide. Dvorak is definitely better but cap for longer and injured. 1st mesar Hoffman and a 3rd should get it done.

I'm not saying he's worthless but definitely wouldn't trade much for him as he isn't a direct need. I prefer Hoffman simply because his contract ends sooner and don't have to worry about trading Dvorak again so soon. Ylonen is 24 next season and isn't really much of a prospect anymore. Not saying he's bad just wouldn't be what the jets want prospect wise. Hoffman would simply be for cap as most hab agms want to move cap to the jets. I'd say that Dvorak rn is worth about a late 3rd early 4th as sure he has value but with an injury and trade protection on top of the cap that teams would need to work around just makes it difficult warranting like a 2nd for him. Jets view Dvorak and Hoffman pretty similar as they aren't a need so if you want to put in Hoffman and keep Dvorak that's fine.

I wouldn't personally be opposed.
They are slightly different but comparable in value. Compromise may mean dropping the 4th, not a deal breaker.

The issue is Mesar being selected specifically for his ability to fit in with the direction and style Hughes envisions. He may not be as willing to part with some players as others.
So while not a deal breaker for me, it may be for Hughes.

So it's either
1st mesar Dvorak
Or
1st kidney Dvorak 4th?
