Seattle says hell nooooooooo

Also we can get a way better return than Guentzel elsewhere, may I ask you how Vegas is going to afford him?

No chance in hell Guentzel goes anywhere without Crosby's approval. As long as Sid is there Guentzy stays.

Seattle won't be giving up two quality young depth contributors in Geekie and Borgen for just one in Smith. For them that's taking one step forward, two steps back.

Question to all Pens fans that want to trade Guentzel : do you still pursue the cup? Do you think you can do better with that 6M cap space next year?
I just don't understand how this moves the Pens towards the cup short term.

i'm hit or miss on it depending the return.

Sid's line will always be fine, but if Guentzel returns two middle six forwards or a middle 6 forward and a top 4 D then i'm not fully against it... The penguins bottom six was so awful that they really need to do what they can to fix it.

I don't understand the trade of Smith. He has great numbers but was held in the AHL because of incompetent leadership. Keep him for the youth movement.

False. When management tells Sid the plan to sell Guentz for future assets and get the team younger and faster to *compete* I think he will be pretty understanding of it.

Couldn’t have said it any better. Not sure why some of us pens fans on here are just sending him right on out…. It’s not like we traded a top 4 shut down dman for him and acquired him for potential we have yet to see. He will get a roster spot next year and serve us well.

All I see is the same from you. Same terrible Detroit trades and same idea of trading Smith. Those are absolute no goes. Smith stays, and we arent doing that Detroit trade one bit.

Then scratch the SEA deal and do a bottom pair of Smith and Luke Schenn. DET trade, something needs to happen. Rust should go this offseason.

No he shouldn’t. If he’s gonna go anytime it’s CERTAINLY not this off-season after we gave him that extension and the year he had. Next year, if he bounces back which he should and with the cap going up quite a bit, that’s when I’d look to move Rust and get the most value out of him.

Sure something needs to happen, but our top 6 wasn't the issue.

Still, I wouldn’t extend Jake and Rust should never have been resigned.

Wings pass, Fabbri is signed for less money and term, no point in this trade.

Rust 100% shouldve been resigned. One down year doesnt amplify everything. The bottom 6 needs a changup but the top 6 will be fine

Ehhhh I wouldn’t count on it. Plus I’m not sure Washington is in the position to dish out the extension $ for him either, they are kinda entering “last ride” mode with Ovi and have their fair share of contracts and trade candidates that they may move. I just don’t think Guentzel fits their budget tbh. Rust? Maybe??? Can’t see it happening tho with the season he had and again, the contract he’s signed.

My likely guess is the Capitals are looking for a young(er) forward on a $3-4m cap hit for another year or 2 and that’s who they’ll kick tires on.

Actually I was thinking about that yesterday haha. Something like Rust (1 mil retained) Guentzel (3 mil retained) for your 2023 1st, Mantha, and 1-2 A prospects could be intriguing

Hellll no if ANYTHING is dealt with the Caps I hope we steer far away from Mantha.

Bad contract, but I'd take it at 1 year only. I think the Rust contract could really hurt us once the rebuild starts

I think it would have to be 2023 1st if we were taking on Mantha and moving both Guentzel and Rust. But I'm sure it could be altered to make it work

Hence why after Rust bounces back this coming season and with the flat cap being gone, we deal him next offseason and that solves that problem
