I don't want Carter around as much as anyone but no way they will waste a first round pick just to get rid of him.

Rust isn't waiving his NMC for Arizona.

And fat chance pf Petry waiving for Buffalo, To be even farther from his family in the Detroit area.

Agree that it wouldn't work with Buffalo, but let's not start throwing excuses with Petry's preferred location lol. It's around 4.25 hours drive from Pittsburgh to Detroit. It's around an extra hour (and a little change) from Buffalo to Detroit (through the states). Gasp, an extra hour! It's actually less driving miles from Buffalo to Detroit if they cut through Ontario than Pittsburgh to Detroit! I'm sure though, the Petry's fly, he does after all have a nice contract lol. Point: I'm sure the Petry's can suck it up with one of the Midwestern area hockey teams. They got out of Canada which is all they wanted.

I wouldn’t spend assets on Flower, I’d wager 50/50 he retires at the end of the year. He had a poor year behind one of the better defensive teams in the league and was shelled back to the bench in his lone playoff appearance.

I’d assume Verbeek says no thank you

We might as well just sign our own UFA Dman instead of helping you guys with cap space taking on a 32 year old who surely doesn’t fit our timeline

I like Sam Carrick as a 13th or 14th guy to keep around as well while finishing this rebuild

Rust and his poorly written contract have no appeal to AZ. Also, Valimaki has become a good defender under Coach Bear and not a player the organization wants to part with at present.

Schmaltz/Vejmelka for Blomqvist, Smith and the 25 1st is a deal that AZ would seriously consider. Pit might need to add a 3rd/4th for evening out the trade value.

That's actually a very interesting and tempting trade - what do you think just Schmaltz would cost?

Certainly Rust doesn't waive to Arizona or Arizona doesn't want him. IMO Arizona shouldn't be giving up their good players for picks and cap dumps. Coyotes have enough picks now, and they be trying to put an better NHL team on the ice. Think Sabres jump on that trade, but it hinges on Petry wanting to move again. By the way Buffalo is closer to Pittsburg than Detroit.
Giving Severson 7.5m X 6 years, way too much.

Yeah, in a perfect world Carrick would get pushed off the Ducks roster back down to San Diego where he could pick the mantle of captain back up. The Gulls have sorely missed him.

For Pit?? - - The 2023 14th overall (unprotected) lottery pick + B/C grade prospect (maybe Belliveau) would be a reasonable price for Schmaltz. He is a good player and has great chemistry with Keller, but Schmaltz is in his prime right now. He will be on the decline when AZ will rise and does not fit the rebuild timelines. Schmaltz would be a great fit for a team like Pit that has just a couple kicks at the can left before their fall. Washington would be another really good fit for him.
