Nope just Detroit isn't going to trade firsts for veteran wingers that don't necessarily make our team much better. Especially when they have contracts for another 5 years. Wrong team. We might give something for Rakell but it wouldn't be that much. Right now we have 5 wingers that can play in the top six plus other guys like Zadina, Veleno and Rasmussen that might be pushing for a spot, Rasmussen deserves it too.

ooof that Canucks trade is well put together. That would hurt bad but I think I'd probably do it.

40 point Petry who played on the 2nd pairing who is signed for 2 years at $4M costs a 1st to dump? Interesting.

I would think Rakell jumps over most of your wingers, but maybe it isnt a fit, thats fair.

Hard pass from the Kraken. Guentzel brings in more of what they already have (depth at wings), for the cost of prospects and picks which they don't have. Maybe after next season when contracts start coming off the books but not this off season.

In this trade, we retain so it would be $4M. He would also be the perfect replacement for Hronek short-term. Not to mention he is from Michigan and would probably love to play for the Red Wings.

Just not a fit. He would be an upgrade over a couple but all of those guys, other than Perron, are younger than Rakell. Plus he isn't that much of an upgrade to warrant a first. That first would be better spent on a guy like Debrincat. That first plus Zadina and like a second gets or at least comes close to Debrincat.

I'm not opposed to Petry at that dollar amount but I still wouldn't give up much for him. If the Pens are that desperate to get rid of him, which seems like every fan does, then we likely don't send much back.

I personally am okay with keeping him. I think he did well. I do see a lot of fans moving him though. I only trade him here assuming we retool/rebuild.

Looking at Rakell had a very good season after several mediocre at best seasons in Anaheim. Playing with a player like Crosby and Malkin will do that but Detroit doesn't have a Crosby or a Malkin. So in Detroit his production will probably be around 20 goals and 40 points similar to what Kubalik did this season. Rakell will be 30 before the start of the season and is under contract for 5 more seasons . He is a right handed shot and if he were a center then I could see Detroit being somewhat interested. I don't see Detroit giving up a 1st for a player they don't want (Petry) and player they don't really need. Besides I'd much rather use that pick used to get a player like DeBrincat.

I wanted to add I don't think Rakell is a cap dump at all but from Detroit's POV he doesn't have enough value to warrant a 1st round pick. If Detroit wanted Petry he more than likely be a Red Wing right now. I think Pittsburgh is better off keeping Rakell. With 5yrs left on his contract that takes a lot of the playoff teams and contenders out of the picture and they are the most likely to give up draft capital. At the same time his age is going to keep lottery teams from giving up a first to get him. Maybe Buffalo would be interested in Rakell they were really close to a wild card spot this year.
