Description
This just feels like how the Jets will approach this offseason. This retool keeps them *just* good enough to be in the wild card hunt, while also acquiring getting younger and acquiring a little more draft capital. The DeBrincat return is mostly for fun, as it would only happen if he agreed to sign here in all likelihood.

But it also would be VERY on brand for the Jets to trade our most valuable Pending UFA asset (Hellebuyck) for another pending UFA instead of futures.

Also treat Wheeler on LTIR as LTIRetirement. Im guessing this happens, although it's also possible he chooses to play another year. If that happens, then pretend I traded him somewhere at 50% retained for a late round pick.

Quick Rationale for each trade:

- Schief is getting trade for sure and he's from Kitchener. Toronto constantly has Lilj in the press box and the Jets have no RD prospects. Throw in Matt Murray as a cap dump and we're straight. Toronto gets a year to convince Scheif to re-sign at a massive hometown discount (or at any price if Matthews walks) while they chase another cup.

-Sorta already explained this one. Ottawa needs a goalie and there have been reports that DeBrincat isn't interested in signing in Ottawa.

- Vancouver has a love affair with former Jets d-men (see Myers, Poolman, etc.). Basically two trades in one here: overpaid Pionk for overpaid Boeser and Stanley for Hoglander is just a swap of meh young guys who want more ice time. I don't think Stanley has trade value (I think he just won't get offered a QO this offseason and will just be a UFA), but reporters keep suggesting he does so lets say this, idk.

- Dillon for a low-end prospect/AHLer and a mid pick is fair, I think. Just used pittsburgh bc idk. This could happen with probably 20 different teams. He's getting moved because his contract is easy to move and he's still decent, unlike Schmidt.

- and the Dubois trade. This one feels inevitable. Dvorak + low-end prospect + FLA 1st. Idk. Cope Montreal fans -- you know this is happening, even if you'd personally prefer to see the team get him for free as a UFA.

Recently, I have been targeting Ylonen as the prospect/young player in a PLD trade. Lots of potential in my opinion.

Rather a younger option. Ylonen will be 24 next season and really doesn't have enough to be a legit top 6 contributor. Kidney makes more sense position and upside wise

Toronto doesn't need Scheifele, They're set with Matthews and O'Reilly and Tavares.

Hellebuyck doesn't sign with Ottawa, And if DeBrincat doesn't want to sign with Ottawa. He sure as hell isn't signing with Winnipeg. And Winnipeg won't give Cat the 8 x $9,000,000 he's looking for either.

True, I won't disagree with you there. At first, Kidney was my target and honestly he's probably the better choice looking back.

I think Hellebuyck would sign anywhere if the team is good -- he's an outdoorsman country dude, he's not a metropolitan kinda guy at all. There's a reason his last contract was a 6-year deal with Winnipeg. He just doesn't want to be part of a rebuild.

Though I do agree on DeBrincat for the most part. Still fun to think about though -- if Chevy stays on as Jets GM, I can just see him wanting DeBrincat with the blind hope of "rebuilding while staying competitive"

Also -- isn't O'Reilly a pending UFA? Ofc if they re-sign him then they wouldn't have room for Scheif, but given his performance with the leafs I can't see them having cap space to keep him, unless he takes a huge hometown discount.

Going to include the Calgary 1st for that lol those are terrible contracts and doesn't change that you wouldn't have to pay to dump them

Ylonen also wouldn't get the time on the jets and would basically waste away his value forced to play a game that doesn't play to his strengths

You know what. If you want to adjust this for greater realism -- trade Helle to LA for picks and prospects, and instead of DeBrincat on line 2, the Jets re-sign Namestnikov.

Canucks pass. Would rather have Boeser over Pionk and would rather have Hoglander over Stanley
