Yea adding Ekholm was good but Holland should have tried for more retention as its gonna be a headache

And Skinner man just to inconsistent but then so is the defense in front

To be fair to Skinner, he wasn't supposed to be the go-to in goal. He had 64 games of experience going into the playoffs for the first time.
They went with Campbell as a free agent and struck out.

only way i lose this is by @NovaSpartan pulling a bracket equivalent of reverse-sweep on me

For the Finals, I’m hoping Dallas makes it because I predicted they would but I think we’re looking at a Vegas-Carolina finals right now

EDM since McDavid:
- Missed
- RD2

TOR since Matthews:
- RD1 x 6
- RD2

Kane, Hyman, RNH, Ekholm, Campbell, Nurse all have contracts that will likely age very bad into their mid 30’s.

Now it’s certainly not all rosy for TOR, especially if Matthews decides to not resign, but with Murray on LTIR (or traded) close to 20mil this offseason.

"dear Seattle Kraken, Vegas Golden Knights, and Canes/Panthers,
it would be really cool if you all could absolutely throw the rest of the playoffs so Dallas can win and I can get first in a meaningless bracket group. Thank you!

Actually, you could end up as low as 4, the brackets named "Steven_Stamkos" and "100% this will age like Ryan Suter" both have higher possible points than you too

My bracket is tied for 2nd to last place. But I have the second most possible points behind Nova with 218 lol. Only hope I have is for Dallas to win the cup so I can finish 2nd. Apart from them, my picks have only amounted to disappointment. GO DALLAS!!

With the emergence of Bouchard on the backend, the Oilers have an elite top D-pair. Yes, they're in cap trouble, but. w/ so much elite talent, they can work through it. Contrarily, the Leafs problems start and end on the blue line, imo. They don't have the worrisome contracts that EDM has (you mentioned them above), but they're less stable defensively. I'm sure the d-corps will be the #1 priority for Dubas moving forward. I don't expect any of the big 4 to be traded. And I don't expect a coaching or management change either. Gonna be interesting to see how the summer plays out for both teams, but if I had to bet on one team to win the Cup first, I'm taking EDM.

Yep and with that 20mill there are options

Bertuzzi
Killorn
Pacioretty (1 year deal)
ROR
Tarasenko (1 year deal)

Or pull off a OB like trade

This is going to be scrappy series. Both teams don't like each other, that's pretty evident over the last few years although they have yet to face in the ploffs.

-Florida currently has the edge on the powerplay, and they do have more weapons than Carolina in that regard. Carolina is currently running 90% on the pk. However there are a couple different lenses you could look at that number through. The Islanders only scored one goal on the powerplay against Carolina. The Islanders had a pretty miserable powerplay all year so are the stats from that series that impressive? However they held New Jersey to only 2 powerplay goals, and they had a lethal powerplay, so that is also impressive.

-Florida has however been shredded on the PK through two rounds. Operating at 65%, you can attribute that to them having a bad penalty kill, or them having to face two "essentially" top 5 powerplays in Boston and Toronto.

-Will Carolina's powerplay start to click against Florida's subpar penalty kill? Or will the truth come to light, where we see Florida improve their shorthanded play and show how challenged Carolina's powerplay can be at times?

-Carolina plays very similar to Florida in terms of their suffocating forecheck. There were questions about how Carolina would fair against another great forechecking team (NYI) and against a fast transition team (NJD). They handled both pretty easily.

3 keys:

-Special teams
-Goaltending
-Road success

Carolina is 3-1 on the road despite being brutal last year. Florida has been damn near perfect, 6-1 away from Sunrise. I think Florida takes the series due to their ability to win on the road, and Carolina's inability to crack Bob.

Florida in 7

Friedman brought up a super good point about why the NHL has no technology besides cameras to see if a goal is scored:

Can you imagine the reactions when a goal is awarded but nobody could see it?

In general NHL is far behind the tech department and its embarassing

Look at the tech the use for Tennis, Soccer, and even Golf to determine plays. Heck other hockey leagues in Europe, Czhechia and Russia be doing it.

If the NHL had that tech we would have known for sure if Rielly scored or not

But it was just he saw they saw 0 idea 10min wasted review and potentially a wrong answer

Hopefully 2023-2024 we start seeing goal line tech and chips in pucks but i have doubts because Bettman still commissioner

And that’s exactly why I think the best the NHL could do is more cameras in the net
