Imo. Marner excels when both teams are playing "loose". He's great at disrupting plays and creating a counter attack.
When your opponent is back defensively or playing cautious, it's more difficult to capitalize. When your team is in that same mindset, there's less opportunity to create something in time.

For obvious reasons that doesn't always translate well to the playoffs. You almost have to have a player on his line that is only looking at offense and plays with speed if you expect him to produce consistently.
