Description
For this mock I did a tankathon for the draft pick. Picked up the draft pick because of Hawks need the cap space and Islanders need to get rid of the cap hit. Thought a second round pick is fair price for someone who was scratched during the playoffs.

Kept most of my cap space for teams to come calling to do salary cap dumps that I cannot identify yet in exchange for draft picks.

Hawks rebuild really shouldn’t be all that dreadful tbh, they are gonna get a star this year and are loading up assets the next 2-3 years. I’d say about 5 years max and they’ll have themselves ready to go again… possibly even sooner if they hit on enough prospects.

I agree. CHI may have lost a lot of their games this past season, but they also kept a lot of them close and competitive and even had a few upsets against very good teams. If this is what a hodge podge roster can do under Richardson, I am very excited to see what he can do with a few injections of talent over the next few years. But you never know, the league is constantly changing, and Davidson and Richardson's vision might not work by the time it comes to fruition.

Honestly I see Chicago being a modern version of Seattle but on crack, in a couple years. With the trades of Hagel, Cat, McCabe, Dach etc it seems like they want to make 1 above average player into a couple “good players” making it so they can eventually construct a lineup of a bunch of good solid players with cap hits and extensions that don’t completely break the bank and can compete with cap space and stretch out their window down the road.

Yeah. That is sort of what I was thinking too. Balance spread out over the entire roster might work out better than having one or two superstars taking up half the cap space. haha. Then again, it's hard to get "clutch play" out of regular "solid" players in the same way that superstars tend to be.

This team seems very realistic for next year. If Hawks do acquire Bailey, he'll be in the NHL. And Korchinski might get 9 games at the start of the season, but he's most likely going back to the WHL next season. He's got some work to do on his defensive game.
